Folks, we need to show up at city hall for the next meeting as it is important to
keep tabs on these cutbacks. Let's get rid of the pork projects and support our
city's SAFETY. This is a very important issue as these people put their lives on
the line for you and I. They are great servants to our community! Let us show
up and let them know that people's livelihoods are more important than building
new buildings, paving new roads, putting up new stoplights, etc. Times are
super tough and going to get tougher. Let's atleast help our firefighters stay
in their homes.
How about we get rid of the Mayor's job or the City Manager's job
This is the note I read from a member of the fire dept:
If you still live in Columbia Heights or have family in Columbia Heights and care about Columbia Heights you need to take action. The City is about to take drastic measures to cut the budget and affect the operation and livability of the City. Of course, my first concern is the Fire Department and the services the Fire Department provides to the people of the City. Our Fire Department is like no other around and our Fire Department does more work in a day than most around. Other areas in the City are going to be cut also.
So I am calling on all citizens of Columbia Heights or anyone who cares about the City to voice your opinion about the choices the City Council is about to make regarding the services and the ability to provide those services.
You can voice your opinion by coming to the City Council meeting on Monday, February 9, 2009 at 7:00pm in the City Hall City Council Chambers located at 590 40th Avenue N.E. Or you can call the Mayor at 763-706-3607! Whether you show up at the meeting or call the Mayor, tell the City of Columbia Heights to let the Fire Department provide the services it does now with no cuts to its budget!
And someone else wrote:
The City of Columbia Heights is about to make decisions that are going to drastically change the lives of some of their employees. Jobs are going to be cut, benefits lost, and some will be forced from their homes, because they are no longer able to make the mortgage payments. Unemployment is up and jobs are few. Those employees who provide services that affect the operation and livability of the city need stay to continue their tireless efforts. Any cut in this area will drastically affect the City. I am talking about the Fire Department Housing Inspections and the Columbia Heights Police Community Services. Our combined efforts have proven their worth over and over. We need your voices.
ON ANOTHER NOTE: FEBRUARY 9TH IS ALSO THE DEADLINE FOR STORES WHO
SELL REUSED CHILDREN'S CLOTHING. THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HAS A
NEW LAW IN EFFECT BANNING THE SALE OF THIS CLOTHING. SO, IF YOU WANT
ANYTHING, YOU BEST BUY IT BEFORE THE 9TH...
I'M SURE WE WILL SEE THE LIKES OF SAVOR'S, SALVATION ARMY, ONCE UPON
A CHILD AND GARAGE SALES EITHER GO OUT OF BUSINESS OR FALL BY THE
WAYSIDE...
ALSO, CIGARETTES ARE GOING UP .61 CENTS A PACK AND WE CAN THANK
THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FOR SNEAKING THAT IN AS WELL...THAT IS $6.10
A CARTON. I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT WHY SHOULD "US SMOKERS"
PAY SO THE GOVERNMENT CAN HAVE CHITLIN'S FOR SUPPER....
