Rep. Kohl Proposes State Spending Freeze.
Launches Web site for Minnesotans to express their support
SAINT PAUL -- In anticipation of Thursday's budget forecast, Representative Paul Kohls (R- Victoria) today announced an effort to freeze overall state General Fund spending in the budget that the Legislature will pass next year. The General Fund spending freeze would limit spending to $34.6 billion - the amount being spent in the current biennium - or the amount of revenue projected in the forecast, whichever is less.
"Everyone is predicting a significant deficit, maybe as much as several billion dollars," Kohls said. "These deficits are largely a result of increased spending commitments made by previous Legislatures without regard to the fact that taxpayers cannot afford them."
