Ramsey County...Protect your right to vote on tax increases

Today is one of the few opportunities you will ever have to make as strong an impact on taxes and your right to vote in Ramsey County.
The Ramsey County Charter Commission has a meeting scheduled for this Wednesday to vote on amending the Ramsey County Charter in order to ensure the people will get to vote on whether they want the sales tax raised for funding a Vikings stadium.
In 2006, the state legislature voted to allow the Hennepin County commissioners to suspend the right of the citizens to vote on whether or not to raise sales taxes to build the Twins Stadium – a tax imposed only on the residents of Hennepin County.
Wednesday's vote would put the question to Ramsey County voters - should the county's charter be amended to require voter approval of sales tax hikes to finance sport stadiums?
Take Action:
Call the members of the charter commission and tell them to ensure that the right of the citizens of Ramsey County to vote on a tax increase to fund a stadium must be preserved.
Just make the point that the Charter Commission has a duty to let the people vote by approving the Amendment:
1. Bev Aplikowski 651.633.3863
2. Bud Berry 651.777.6704
3. Russ Miller 651.210.3363
4. Chris Leifeld 651.698.6873
5. Peter Hendricks 651.228.0290
6. Richard Sonterre 763.227.2972 (chair)
7. Fred Perez 651.224.1001

The Charter Commission meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 31st, at 7:00PM, 125 Charles Ave, near Rice Street. While it is a closed hearing (in that no public testimony will be heard), the public is welcome to observe, and are encouraged to attend.
