A worthwhile reminder …

The Washington Post babbled about Obama inheriting a huge deficit from Bush. Amazingly enough,...... A lot of people swallow this nonsense. So once more, a short civics lesson.    
 
Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from Congress, and the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is the Democratic Party. They controlled the budget process for FY 2008 and FY 2009, as well as FY 2010 and FY 2011. In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.
 
For FY 2009 though, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the FY 2009 budgets.
 
And where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete FY 2009. Let's remember what the deficits looked like during that period:    

 

If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the FY 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets.  That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets. If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself.
 
In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is I inherited a deficit that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January 20th.
 
  
Note that our country had a very tough time dealing with the 9/11 attack.  It sent the economy into a tailspin and caused us to spend many billions on domestic security, etc.  Much of that government spending post 9/11 was stimulus to get the economy working again and to get things back to normal. The magnitude of the psychological shock caused by that very first enemy attack on our mainland needs to be remembered. We never heard Bush blame the attack on Bill Clinton and the laxed domestic security of the Clinton administration.
 
   
There is no way this will be widely publicized, Unless each of us sends it on!
 
This is your chance to make a difference. Then vote 'em all out in November! And don't renig in 2012!

Apparently some of the city staff did not appreciate my letter to the
editor in the Sun Focus on July 29, 2010.  They sent me a letter and
copy of an in-house memo trying to say that I wasn't giving out the
whole "truth of the interest expense."

Here is part of my response:

On complaint from the city of my rounding up $961,392 and saying that it was 'almost a million""

On page 19 of the 2009 report it listed interest on long-term debt
for 2009 at $961,392.  Anything over $950,000 is almost a million in my
eyes and many other people.  I have sat through many city council
meetings where numbers are rounded up or down by the presenter.  This is
an accepted practice.  Of course, this is not an accepted practice if
you are the accountant.

On the city's response being that property taxes only raised about $17 per person:

To say that this only resulted in a $17 per person increase is
another interesting perspective.  The 2000 census data from the city’s
website show that we have 18,520 residents.  Multiply 18,520 X $17 =
$314,840.  Yet your letter stated that the figure was actually $314,000,
which means you are also rounding a per cost estimate.  The other part
of that $17 that isn’t being presented is that of the 18,520 people that
live in this city, not all of them are paying property tax.  I do not
know of any household in the city where their city portion of their property taxes only went up $17 or even just $16.96.

On the comment in the memo that the citizens could have petitioned to stop the building of the public safety building:

The point is not that these projects were ‘bad’ ideas.  I don’t know
of many people that would deny that we needed more space for the police
and fire.  Though I have heard over and over from citizens in reference
to the new building, yes, we needed it, but we didn't need a Taj Mahol. 
The point is that we cannot sustain this rate of increase of spending
into the future.  I think that was made very clear in my article.  What
my article did not say, for lack of space, was that a new city hall, a
new public library, walking paths in our parks are all wonderful things
but at this time we cannot continue borrowing money at this rate and
especially borrowing money to meet our basic needs.   There will have to
be more cuts.

On the city's claim that 55% of the long-term interest and debt is paid for funding  received from other jurisdictions:

Your point that “55% of the principal and interest on long-term debt
for tax increment projects is paid with funding received from other
jurisdictions” is a good point.  But I also look at that in this
perspective:  If your son or daughter took out a loan for $10,000 to buy
a used car and you, as their parent, co-signed, you are ultimately
responsible for that loan.  The City of Columbia Heights is kind of like
that.  We have been promised all of this money for projects from
outside sources.  But we cosigned that loan and if those outside sources
default on their portion of the loan we are ultimately responsible for
the full amount.

The second part of that is all those other jurisdictions are just
another tax that has been paid in another way to our county, state and
federal government.  So we are still paying.

As a city we could go bankrupt.  Even if we don’t, if a city around
us goes bankrupt it will destroy the reputation of the surrounding area,
ultimately hurting our credit rating.  That is a very real possibility,
whether it is Hilltop or Minneapolis that defaults on their loans, we
would be effected.

Concerned about spending:

Am I concerned about spending?  Yes!  Can we continue to see the same
rate of increase of borrowed money over the next four years?  No!  The
next four years are not going to be fun years with lots of fun projects
coming forward.  If we can just maintain city services without going
into bankruptcy we will be accomplishing a lot.  When things start to
look up, that is when we can look at adding new projects, but not now. 
Now is when we need to pay our bills and get back to a common sense
budget.

Candidate for Columbia Heights City Council


For a couple of years the City of Columbia Heights has been purchasing older homes, paying to have them demolished, and then sitting on the vacant property in anticipation of selling that property when values have gone back up.  Many times the cost for these purchases and demolition ends up costing the city around $50,000 to $60,000.  The idea is to remove from sales homes that are hazardous to live in.

The concept is commendable but maybe it is not necessarily the best one.  Some of the problems are:  1) You have now eliminated that property from the tax rolls so less income for the city. 2) Now this property is becoming a debt to the city because it has to be maintained on a seasonal basis.  3) These properties that have been taken off the tax rolls mean the rest of us will have our property taxes go up because the city's budget has not decreased.

I proposed another plan at the city council meeting on Monday night.  Why not take that $50,000 to $60,000 and offer a $10,000 to $20,000 grant to a purchaser to rehab that home.  That way you keep the home on the tax rolls, the home is fixed up to current code and it helps the neighbors by upgrading the home's value.  By offering up to a $20,000 grant you take that same $50-$60 thousand dollars and have fixed up 3-6 homes rather than torn down a single home.  You also are allowing a family a way to purchase an affordable home and yet providing a way to make sure it is a 'safe' home.

There could be several stipulations on that grant.  You could make sure that the rehab is done in a timely manner.  One way to do this is to decrease the grant if the rehab is not completed within 4-6 months.  You can also offer a larger incentive if this is an owner rehab vs. a property flip.   But I would also recommend a smaller grant, possibly $10,000 offered to someone that rehabs a home and sells it to someone else just because it still is accomplishing the same purpose, refurbishing homes and making the safe for families.  This also could be offered to groups such as Habitat to help them with projects in the city.

With a $10,000 to $20,000 grant the purchaser could even pay to have that home demolished and build a new home on that property.  But the difference is that all of this is done while still providing property tax income to the city and eliminates the need for the city to maintain that property over the years.

For anyone that has watched DIY, HGTV or faithfully watched 'This Old House' over the years you know that anything can be rehabbed.  To say that a house is not fixable is not being realistic.  Can anyone fix up a home?  No!  Are there times you need to call in an expert?  Yes!  With this type of grant you are providing more incentive for the purchaser to get it done quickly and getting that home back into a livable condition, and keeping it on the tax rolls.  It is a win-win situation for the city and for the purchaser.

There are other home improvement programs offered but all of these have limited funds and are usually grabbed up quickly.  This would be a great idea to sell to realtors and get them to help market this idea in our city.  This would be just another incentive and would work especially for those homes that are in foreclosure.

This is the time for the city to re-evaluate it's demolition goals.   The City of Columbia Heights has set aside funds for demolition over the next couple of years.   We need to make sure that we are getting the best value for our dollar and a home improvement incentive grant could be what we need to improve our home values rather than what is currently in place.

In Defense of Senator Satveer S. Chaudhary:
I must clarify my political, philosophical, and party affiliations that
differ from Senator Satveer S. Chaudhary. I am not endorsing nor am I
providing any political favor toward Senator Satveer S. Chaudhary. My
intention is to work with Senator Gina Bauman in 2011 after her victory
against Senator Satveer S. Chaudhary on November 2, 2010.

In the last days of the 2009 Minnesota State Legislature and the subsequent
weeks, Senator Satveer S. Chaudhary found himself embroiled in the
"amendment gate" scandal in St. Paul. It appears that Senator Satveer S.
Chaudhary placed a last minute amendment to the omnibus DNR bill that had a
direct impact on waterfront property that Senator Satveer S. Chaudhary owns
in northern Minnesota. As a result of this attempt, DFL leaders in Senate
District 50 held a town hall type of meeting with Senator Satveer S.
Chaudhary; a senate ethics committee held a meeting in St. Paul with Senator
Satveer S. Chaudhary; and the DFL party has considered rescinding Senator
Satveer S. Chaudhary endorsement. To top off the attacks, Barb Goodwin, a
local political activist, decided on the last day to file in the 2010
elections to run for Senate District 50 against Senator Satveer S.
Chaudhary. An August primary runoff is now scheduled.

The defense I make is not for our Senator Satveer S. Chaudhary's actions in
St. Paul, nor is it that I agree with Senator Satveer S. Chaudhary's
unconstitutional action of submitting an unrelated amendment in committee or
on the House floor. The defense is how extremely rampant this
unconstitutional submission to a bill is at the Capitol. The action to
subvert the constitutional process of review by committees or submitting an
unrelated amendment is commonplace and practiced by both Democrats and
Republicans in the Legislature. Over the years I have personally seen this
practice on the House Floor while in the gallery. Our State Constitution
provides no right of personal privilege of representatives to submit
amendments to unrelated bills. No personal privilege exists in the
legislative process.
The current issue that our Senator Satveer S. Chaudhary is experiencing is
only a small portion of the problems in St. Paul. The leadership in St. Paul
needs wholesale replacement across the board in 2010. "We the People" do
have the power to return government to Constitutional limits on November 2,
2010; the question is "have you had enough yet" to want Constitutional
governance.

Yes, our Senator Satveer S. Chaudhary did make poor choices to target
specific property he owns for personal benefit. The solution is
understanding every legislative bill introduced (3,864 in the last biennium)
impacts every member of the Legislature and citizen in Minnesota. Every bill
should stand alone as mandated in our State Constitution, travel the
regulated review process through committees, and be openly voted on the
House Floor by each representative, not voting for others, but making their
own vote up or down. Law and personal security can only prosper when elected
officials follow our constitutional process as I vow to do when elected to
St. Paul in November 2010.

Liberal, Washington state politicians keep trying to restrict our gun rights. And no matter how often they fail, these nanny state politicians keep looking for ways to restrict our freedom. Fortunately, we have a protector.

Supreme Court Justice Richard Sanders is a fiercely dedicated, unwavering protector of our constitutional liberties. He has stood up for our rights – all of our rights – for the past fifteen years on the Court. This was no surprise.

Before Justice Sanders’ election to the court he was the lawyer for the Second Amendment Foundation and the Citizens Committee to Keep and Bear Arms.

Sanders authored a landmark decision just this past February affirming that the Second Amendment applies to individual states.

With views like these, Justice Sanders has drawn strong opposition in this year’s election. His opponent is an attorney who was appointed to the appellate court by Governor Mike Lowry who only lasted a short time before the voters sent him packing.

Yet Sanders’ opponent has accumulated sufficient wealth to literally buy the election.  Sanders – who has been defending us on the Court – has only our contributions.

Your contribution of $300 or $500 or even $100 to Friends of Justice Sanders will help assure that a voice for liberty remains on the Supreme Court. We must do everything we can to generously support Justice Sanders’ re-election campaign. The election will be decided in August.

Now we need to stand by Justice Sanders just as he has stood by our rights for these past fifteen years.

Don’t wait until Mike Lowry’s mud-slinging lawyer puts on the judicial robes and takes away our rights. This is our only chance to keep Justice Sanders on the court, and we must act now!

"I'm 63 and I'm Tired"

I'm 63. Except for one semester in college when jobs were scarce and a six-month period when I was between jobs, but job-hunting every day, I've  worked, hard, since I was 18. Despite some health challenges, I still put in 50-hour weeks, and haven't called in sick in seven or eight years. I make a good salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, there's no retirement in sight, and I'm tired. Very tired.
 
I'm tired of being told  that I have to "spread the wealth" to people who don't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too damn lazy to earn it.
 
I'm tired of being told that I have to pay more taxes to "keep people in their homes."  Sure, if they lost their jobs or got sick, I'm willing to help. But if they bought McMansions at three times the  price of our paid-off, $250,000 condo, on one-third of my salary, then let the left-wing Congress-critters who passed Fannie and Freddie and the Community Reinvestment Act that created the bubble help them with their own money.
 
I'm tired of being told  how bad America is by left-wing millionaires like Michael Moore, George Soros and Hollywood Entertainers who live in luxury because of the opportunities
America offers. In thirty years, if they get their way, the United States will have the economy of Zimbabwe, the freedom of the press of China, the crime and violence of Mexico , the tolerance for Christian people of Iran, and the freedom of speech of Venezuela.
I'm tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family "honor"; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren't "believers"; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for "adultery"; of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an and Shari'a law tells them to.
 
I'm tired of being told that "race doesn't matter" in the post-racial world of Obama, when it's all that matters in affirmative action jobs, lower college admission and graduation standards for minorities (harming them the most), government contract set-asides, tolerance for the ghetto culture of violence and fatherless children that hurts minorities more than anyone, and in the appointment of U.S. Senators from Illinois.
 
I think it's very cool that we have a black president and that a black child is doing her homework at the desk where Lincoln wrote the  Emancipation Proclamation. I just wish the black president was Condi Rice, or someone who believes more in freedom and the individual and less arrogantly of an all-knowing  government.
 
I'm tired of a news media that thinks Bush's fundraising and inaugural expenses were obscene, but that think Obama's, at triple the cost, were wonderful; that thinks Bush exercising daily was a waste of presidential time, but Obama exercising is a great example for the public to control weight and stress; that picked over every line of Bush's military records, but never demanded that Kerry release his; that slammed Palin, with two years as governor, for being too inexperienced for VP, but touted Obama with three years as senator as potentially the best president ever. Wonder why people are dropping their subscriptions or switching to Fox News? Get a clue. I didn't vote for Bush in 2000, but the media and Kerry drove me to his camp in 2004.
 
I'm tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let Saudi Arabia use our oil money to fund mosques and madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in   America, while no American group is allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia to teach love, peace and tolerance.
 
I'm tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate. My wife and I live in a two-bedroom apartment and carpool together five miles to our jobs. We also own a  three-bedroom condo where our daughter and granddaughter live. Our carbon footprint is about 5% of Al Gore 's, and if you're greener than Gore, you're green enough.
 
I'm tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses while they tried to fight it off? I don't know if Gay people choose to be Gay, but I damn sure think druggies chose to take drugs. And I'm tired of harassment from cool people treating me like a freak when I tell them I never tried  marijuana.
 
I'm tired of illegal aliens being called "undocumented workers," especially the ones who aren't working, but are living on welfare or crime. What's next?  Calling drug dealers, "Undocumented  Pharmacists"?  And, no, I'm not against Hispanics. Most  of them are Catholic, and it's been a few hundred years since Catholics wanted to kill me for my religion. I'm willing to fast track for citizenship any Hispanic person, who can speak  English, doesn't have a criminal record and who is self-supporting without family on welfare, or who serves honorably for three years in our military..........Those are the citizens we need.
 
I'm tired of latte liberals and journalists, who would never wear the uniform of the Republic themselves, or let their entitlement-handicapped kids near a recruiting station, trashing our military. They and their kids can sit at home, never having to make split-second decisions under life and death circumstances, and bad mouth better people than themselves. Do bad things happen in war? You bet. Do our troops sometimes misbehave? Sure. Does this compare with  the atrocities that were the policy of our enemies for the last fifty years and still are? Not even close. So here's the deal. I'll let myself be subjected to all the humiliation and abuse that was heaped on terrorists at Abu Ghraib or Gitmo, and the critics can let themselves be subject to captivity by the Muslims, who tortured and beheaded Daniel Pearl in Pakistan, or the Muslims who tortured and murdered Marine Lt. Col. William Higgins in Lebanon, or the Muslims who ran the blood-spattered Al Qaeda torture rooms our troops found in Iraq, or the Muslims who cut off the heads of schoolgirls in Indonesia, because the girls were Christian.Then we'll compare notes. British and American soldiers are the only troops in history that civilians came to for help and handouts, instead of hiding from in fear.
 
I'm tired of people telling me that their party has a corner on virtue and the other party has a corner on corruption. Read the papers; bums are bipartisan. And I'm tired of people telling me we need bipartisanship. I live in Illinois, where the "Illinois Combine" of Democrats has worked to loot the public for years. Not to mention the tax cheats in Obama's cabinet.
 
I'm tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of both parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

Speaking of poor, I'm tired of hearing people with air-conditioned homes, color TVs and  two cars called poor. The majority of Americans didn't have that in1960's or 1970's, but we didn't know we were "poor." The poverty pimps have to keep changing the definition of poor to keep the dollars flowing.
 
I'm real tired of people who don't take responsibility for their lives and/or actions. I'm tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination or big-whatever for their problems.

Yes, I'm damn tired. But, I'm also glad to be 63. Because, mostly, I'm not going to have to see the world these people are making. I'm just sorry for my children, grandchildren,
and, all future generations of legal, hardworking working, honest, tax paying, law abiding American citizens.

I don't know how everybody else feels about it, but to me I
think Hispanic people in this country, legally or illegally,
made a huge public relations mistake with their recent demonstrations.

I don't blame anybody in the world for wanting to come to the
United States of America , as it is a truly wonderful place.  

But when the first thing you do when you set foot on American soil is illegal it is flat out wrong and I don't care how many lala land left heads come out of the woodwork and start trying
to give me sensitivity lessons.

I don't need sensitivity lessons, in fact I don't have any-thing against Mexicans!  I just have something against criminals and anybody who comes into this country illegally is a criminal
and if you don't believe it try coming into America from a foreign country without a passport and see how far you get. What disturbs me about the demonstrations is that it's tanta-mount to saying, "I am going to come into your country even if it means breaking your laws and there's nothing you can do about it."

It's an "in your face" action and speaking just for me, I don't like it one little bit and if there were a half dozen pairs of gonads in Washington bigger than English peas it wouldn't be happening.

Where are you, you bunch of lily livered, pantywaist, forked tongued, sorry excuses for defenders of The Constitution? Have you been drinking the water out of the Potomac again?
And even if you pass a bill on immigration it will probably be so pork laden and watered down that it won't mean anything anyway Besides, what good is another law going to do when you
won't enforce the ones on the books now? 

And what ever happened to the polls, guys?  I thought you folks were the quintessential finger wetters.  Well you sure ain't paying any attention to the polls this time because somewhere around eighty percent of Americans want some thing done about this mess, and mess it is and getting bigger everyday. 

This is no longer a problem, it is a dilemma and headed for being a tragedy.  Do you honestly think that what happened in France with the Muslims can't happen here when the businesses who hire these people finally run out of jobs and a few million disillusioned Hispanics take to the streets? 

If you, Mr. President, Congressmen and Senators, knuckle under on this and refuse to do something meaningful it means that you care nothing for the kind of country your children and grand-children will inherit.  But I guess that doesn't matter as long as you get re-elected.
Shame on you. 
One of the big problems in America today is that if you have the nerve to say anything derogatory about any group of people (except Christians) you are going to be screamed at by the media and called a racist, a bigot and anything else they can think of to call you 

Well I've been pounded by the media before and I'm still rockin' and rollin' and when it comes to speaking the truth I fear not. 
And the truth is that the gutless, gonadless, milksop politicians are just about to sell out theUnited States of America because they don't have the intestinal fortitude to stand up to face reality. 

And reality is that we would never allow any other group of people to have 12 million illegal in this country and turn around and say, "Oh it's ok, ya'll can stay here if you'll just allow us to slap your wrist."

And I know that some of you who read this column are saying "Well what's wrong with that?" 
I'll tell you what's wrong with it.  These people could be from Mars as far as we know.  We don't know who they are, where they are or what they're up to and the way the Congress is going we're not going to. 

Does this make sense?  Labor force you say?  We already subsidize corporate agriculture as it is, must we subsidize their labor as well? 
If these people were from  Haiti would we be so fast to turn a blind eye to them or if they were from Somalia or Afghanistan ? 
I think not. 

All the media shows us are pictures of hard working Hispanics who have crossed the border just to try to better their life. 
They don't show you pictures of the Feds rounding up members of MS 13, the violent gang who came across the same way the decent folks did.  They don't tell you about the living conditions of the Mexican illegal some fat cat hired to pick his crop. 

I want to make two predictions. 

No. 1: This situation is going to grow and fester until it erupts in violence on our streets while the wimps in Washington drag their toes in the dirt and try to figure how many tons of political hay they can make to the acre. 

No 2: Somebody is going to cross that border with some kind of weapon of mass destructionand set it off in a major American city after which there will be a backlash such as this country has never experienced and the Capitol building in Washington will probably tilt as Congressmen and Senators rush to the other side of the issue. 


I don't know about you but I would love to see just one major politician stand up and say, "I don't care who I make mad  and I don't care how many votes I lose, this is a desperate situation and I'm going to lead the fight to get it straightened out." 
I don't blame anybody for wanting to come to America , but if you don't respect our immigration laws why should you respect any others?   
And by the way, this is America and our flag has stars and stripes  Please get that other one out of my face.

I'm Arizona State Senator Sylvia Allen. I want to explain SB 1070 which I voted for and was just signed by Governor Jan Brewer.
Rancher Rob Krantz was murdered by the drug cartel on his ranch a month ago. I participated in a senate hearing two weeks ago on the border violence, here is just some of the highlights from those who testified.

The people who live within 60 to 80 miles of the Arizona/Mexico Border have for years been terrorized and have pleaded for help to stop the daily invasion of humans who cross their property . One Rancher testified that 300 to 1200 people a DAY come across his ranch vandalizing his property, stealing his vehicles and property, cutting down his fences, and leaving trash. In the last two years he has found 17 dead bodies and two Koran bibles.

Another rancher testified that daily drugs are brought across his ranch in a military operation. A point man with a machine gun goes in front, 1/2 mile behind are the guards fully armed, 1/2 mile behind them are the drugs, behind the drugs 1/2 mile are more guards. These people are violent and they will kill anyone who gets in the way. This was not the only rancher we heard that day that talked about the drug trains.

One man told of two illegal's who came upon his property one shot in the back and the other in the arm by the drug runners who had forced them to carry the drugs and then shot them. Daily they listen to gun fire during the night it is not safe to leave his family alone on the ranch and they can't leave the ranch for fear of nothing being left when they come back.

The border patrol is not on the border. They have set up 60 miles away with check points that do nothing to stop the invasion. They are not allowed to use force in stopping anyone who is entering. They run around chasing them, if they get their hands on them then they can take them back across the border.

Federal prisons have over 35% illegal's and 20% of Arizona prisons are filled with illegal's. In the last few years 80% of our law enforcement that have been killed or wounded have been by an illegal.

The majority of people coming now are people we need to be worried about. The ranchers told us that they have seen a change in the people coming they are not just those who are looking for work and a better life.

The Federal Government has refused for years to do anything to help the border states . We have been over run and once they are here we have the burden of funding state services that they use. Education cost have been over a billion dollars. The healthcare cost billions of dollars. Our State is broke, $3.5 billion deficit and we have many serious decisions to make. One is that we do not have the money to care for any who are not here legally. It has to stop.
The border can be secured. We have the technology we have the ability to stop this invasion. We must know who is coming and they must come in an organized manner legally so that we can assimilate them into our population and protect the sovereignty of our country. We are a nation of laws. We have a responsibility to protect our citizens and to protect the integrity of our country and the government which we live under.

I would give amnesty today to many, but here is the problem, we dare not do this until the Border is secure. It will do no good to forgive them because thousands will come behind them and we will be over run to the point that there will no longer be the United States of America but a North American Union of open borders. I ask you what form of government will we live under? How long will it be before we will be just like Mexico , Canada or any of the other Central American or South American countries? We have already lost our language, everything must be printed in Spanish also. We have already lost our history it is no longer taught in our schools. And we have lost our borders.

The leftist media has distorted what SB 1070 will do. It is not going to set up a Nazi Germany . Are you kidding. The ACLU and the leftist courts will do everything to protect those who are here illegally, but it was an effort to try and stop illegal's from setting up businesses, and employment, and receiving state services and give the ability to local law enforcement when there is probable cause like a traffic stop to determine if they are here legally. Federal law is very clear if you are here on a visa you must have your papers on you at all times. That is the law. In Arizona all you need to show you are a legal citizen is a driver license, MVD identification card, Native American Card, or a Military ID. This is what you need to vote, get a hunting license, etc.. So nothing new has been added to this law. No one is going to be stopped walking down the street etc... The Socialist who are in power in DC are angry because we dare try and do something and that something the Socialist wants us to do is just let them come. They want the "Transformation" to continue.

Maybe it is too late to save America . Maybe we are not worthy of freedom anymore. But as an elected official I must try to do what I can to protect our Constitutional Republic . Living in America is not a right just because you can walk across the border. Being an American is a responsibility and it comes by respecting and upholding the Constitution the law of our land which says what you must do to be a citizen of this country. Freedom is not free.

pages and paragraphs in the bill and why it is so bad.

and the opposition you may encounter cannot argue over these points:

"I have reviewed selected sections of the bill and find it unbelievable that our Congress,
led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, could come up with a bill loaded with so many wrong-headed elements.

We do need to reform the health insurance system in America in order to make coverage affordable
and available to everyone.  But, how many of us believe our federal government can manage a new
program any better than the bankrupt Medicare program or the underfunded Social Security program?

"Both Republicans and Democrats are equally responsible for the financial mess of those two programs.

"I am opposed to HB 3200 for a number of reasons.  To start with, it is estimated that a federal bureaucracy
of more than 150,000 new employees will be required to administer HB3200.  That is an unacceptable expansion

** Page 50/section 152:  The bill will provide insurance to all non-U.S. residents, even if they are here illegally.


** Page 58 and 59:  The government will have real-time access to an individual's bank account and will have the
authority to make electronic fund transfers from those accounts.


** Page 65/section 164:  The plan will be subsidized (by the government) for all union members, union retirees and for community organizations (such as  the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now - ACORN).


** Page 203/line 14-15:  The tax imposed under this section will not be treated as a tax.
(How could anybody in their right mind come up with that?)
** Page 241 and 253:  Doctors will all be paid the same regardless of specialty, and the government will set all doctors' fees.


** Page 272. section 1145: Cancer hospital will ration care according to the patient's age.


** Page 317 and 321: The government will impose a prohibition on hospital expansion;
however, communities may petition for an exception.


** Page 425, line 4-12: The government mandates advance-care planning consultations.
Those on Social Security will be required to attend an "end-of-life planning" seminar every five years.


** Page 429,  line 13-25:  The government will specify which doctors can write an end-of-life order.


HAD ENOUGH????  Judge Kithil then goes on:


"Finally, it is specifically stated this bill will not apply to members of Congress.
Members of Congress are already exempt from the Social Security system and have a well-funded private plan that covers their
retirement needs.  If they were on our Social Security plan, I believe they would find a very quick 'fix' to make the plan financially
sound for the future."

City Council Meeting 3/22/10 Satveer Chaudary is a guest speaker.

March 22, 2010

 

Proposed items on tonight’s agenda:

 

1.     Satveer Chaudary will be a guest speaker at tonight’s meeting.  He will speak at the start of the meeting right after the consent agenda is presented so it should start within the first ten minutes of the meeting.  (For those watching on cable or those that would like to come to the meeting.)  Two weeks ago when Keith Ellison was present there was an opportunity for a question and answer period.  There may be one at this meeting.  His presentation should only be about 15-20 minutes.

 

2.     Resolution 2010-23

Authorizing application to the MNDNR for a local trail grant.

 

The city is applying for a matching grant for a

·      Trail connecting between Silver Lake Beach and the new 3Rivers Park, Silverwood Park.

·      Hart Boulevard Trail between 37th and 39th Aves.  The map shows this is a path/sidewalk running from 37th to 39th Ave and follows the shore of Hart Lake.  This does not look like it is a vacation of Hart Boulevard as had been proposed in some past meetings.

 

Taking into consideration, this is only a grant covering 50% of the work. The other 50% has to be paid for by the city of Columbia Heights.  There is no potential amount attached to this proposal.  It doesn’t tell us if the city has to build it and then hope the grant money comes or if the city will be given the 50% before they have to start the project.

 

3.     Resolution 2010-14

For those living in Zone 5 for street improvement the city council has this part of their consent agenda, which means they will be trying to pass this without any further discussion.  It looks like the city is going to be charging the residents 75% for these improvements rather than 70% that was stated in the original meeting.  I am not sure if this is true but that is what it looks like to me.

 

4.     It looks like we have another smoke shop coming at the former Proex Store site.  4400 Central Ave is applying for a smoke shop license under the name of Pyromaniacs.

 

5.     Ordinance 1579 – first reading

Tonight there is a first reading of changes to an ordinance change regarding ‘tree inspection’ for trees that are within our city.

·      One difference to note is that the city’s official tree inspector has the right to enter your property at any time to check for diseased trees, stumps or any other item that may be in noncompliance to city ordinance.  For most people that are on a typical undersized lot in Columbia Heights, the inspector doesn’t have to even be on the property to see there is a problem.  But for those with a more private backyard, that means the inspector can enter a fenced-in backyard or walk on your property at anytime without your permission.

As a practicing physician I have major concerns with the health  care bill before Congress. I actually have read the bill and am shocked by the brazenness of the government's proposed involvement in the  patient-physician relationship. The very idea  that the government will dictate and ration  patient care is dangerous and certainly not  helpful in designing a health care system that  works for all. Every physician I work with  agrees that we need to fix our health care  system, but the proposed bills currently making  their way through congress will be a disaster if  passed.
 
I ask you  respectfully and as a patriotic American to look  at the following troubling lines that I have  read in the bill. You cannot possibly believe  that these proposals are in the best interests  of the country and our fellow  citizens.
 
Page 22  of the HC Bill:  Mandates that the Govt  will audit books of all employers that  self-insure!!

Page 30 Sec 123  of HC bill:   THERE WILL BE A GOVT  COMMITTEE that decides what treatments/benefits  you get.

Page 29 lines 4-16 in  the HC bill: YOUR HEALTH CARE IS  RATIONED!!!
 
Page 42 of HC  Bill:  The Health Choices Commissioner  will choose your HC benefits for you. You have  no choice!

Page 50 Section 152  in HC bill: HC will be provided to ALL  non-US citizens, illegal or  otherwise.              

Page  58 HC Bill:  Govt will have real-time  access to individuals' finances & a  'National ID Health card' will be  issued! (Papers  please!)
 
Page  59 HC Bill lines 21-24:  Govt will have  direct access to your bank accounts for elective  funds transfer. (Time  for more cash and carry)
 
Page 65  Sec 164: Is a payoff subsidized plan for  retirees and their families in unions &  community organizations:  (ACORN).

Page  126 Lines 22-25: Employers MUST pay for  HC for part-time employees ANDtheir  families.  (Employees shouldn't get excited  about this as employers will be forced to reduce  its work force, benefits, and wages/salaries to  cover such a huge  expense.)

Page 149 Lines  16-24: ANY Employer with payroll 401k  & above who does not provide public option  will pay 8% tax on all payroll!  (See the  last comment in  parenthesis.)
Page 150  Lines 9-13: A business with payroll  between $251K & $401K who doesn't provide  public option will pay 2-6% tax on all  payroll.
 
Page 167 Lines  18-23: ANY individual who doesn't have  acceptable HC according to Govt will be taxed  2.5% of income.

Page 170 Lines  1-3 HC Bill: Any NONRESIDENT Alien is  exempt from individual taxes.  (Americans will pay.) (Like  always)

Some knew about the red light on cars, but not the *112.

It was about 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon, and Lauren was driving to visit a friend. An UNMARKED police car pulled up behind her and put his lights on. Lauren's parents have always told her never to pull over for an unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather to wait until they get to a gas station, etc.


Lauren had actually listened to her parents advice, and promptly called *112 on her cell phone to tell the police dispatcher that she would not pull over right away. She proceeded to tell the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car with a flashing red light on his rooftop behind her. The dispatcher checked to see if there were police cars where she was and there weren't, and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that he had back up already on the way.

Ten minutes later 4 cop cars surrounded her and the unmarked car behind her. One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind. They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him to the ground. The man was a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes.

I never knew about the *112 Cell Phone Feature, but especially for a woman alone in a car, you should not pull over for an unmarked car. Apparently police have to respect your right to keep going to a safe place.

*Speaking to a service representative at ** Bell ** Mobility confirmed that *112 was a direct link to State trooper info. So, now it's your turn to let your friends know about *112.

President Obama, standing yesterday in the midst of a bunch of turncoats — er..."white coats" — claimed the government takeover bills had already passed. He said the debate is over.

Not so fast. If he has to actually declare it's over, it isn't. He's  using a technique (ad nauseum) to try to make you believe a falsehood is a fact...and to shut down opposition.

President Obama wants the Senate bill passed by the House by March 18, the day he leaves for vacation (isn't it amazing he's leaving so early!), or by Congress' Easter break - Monday, March 29. Then he promises to sign a "fix-the-Senate-bill" bill to please House Democrats. This would be if and only if the fix-it budget bill would be passed by a 51-vote majority under "reconciliation" rules (no 60-vote requirements). BUT, Pelosi does not yet have the votes.

It's up to freedom-loving Americans to make sure Members go home EMPTY-HANDED!  The bill should be buried, not resurrected!

Call Congress every day. Contact YOUR OWN MEMBERS and the 10 Members who have told the Associated Press that they may be willing to switch their previous 'No" vote to a "Yes" vote:

About the Event
Many Americans--particularly younger ones--are looking for answers to social justice issues like poverty and are attracted to the Left's promises of help in these areas. But good intentions and lofty promises aren't enough. Conservatives are concerned about those in need, and are not willing to accept the same old way of doing business via the welfare state--which has hurt the very people it was intended to help.

Human dignity demands a better approach--one that is built around personal responsibility and mutual responsibility through relationships, not government redistribution. Conservatives believe effective solutions based on sound economic principles and an understanding of the role of civil society institutions have the most promise for achieving a free and just society.

Conservative policy has proven effective when it comes to problems of social breakdown, and we need to tell that story. Heritage is taking a leading role in the development of policy and coalition partnerships that will help advance this conservative vision of social justice.

Finally ..... A Sensible Gun Registration Plan That Will Work (Satire at its finest or is it?)

Vermont State Rep. Fred Maslack has read the Second Amendment to the U.S.. Constitution, as well as Vermont 's own Constitution very carefully, and his strict interpretation of these documents is popping some eyeballs in New England and elsewhere.

Maslack recently proposed a bill to register "non-gun-owners" and require them to pay a $500 fee to the state. Thus Vermont would become the first state to require a permit for the luxury of going about unarmed and assess a fee of $500 for the privilege of not owning a gun

Maslack read the "militia" phrase of the Second Amendment as not only affirming the right of the individual citizen to bear arms, but as a clear mandate to do so. He believes that universal gun ownership was advocated by the Framers of the Constitution as an antidote to a "monopoly of force" by the government as well as criminals

Vermont 's constitution states explicitly that "the people have a right to bear arms for the defense of themselves and the State" and those persons who are "conscientiously scrupulous of bearing arms" shall be required to "pay such equivalent." Clearly, says Maslack, Vermonters have a constitutional obligation to arm themselves, so that they are capable of responding to "any situation that may arise."

Under the bill, adults who choose not to own a firearm would be required to register their name, address, Social Security Number, and driver's license number with the state. "There is a legitimate government interest in knowing who is not prepared to defend the state should they be asked to do so," Maslack says

Vermont already boasts a high rate of gun ownership along with the least restrictive laws of any state ... it's currently the only state that allows a citizen to carry a concealed firearm without a permit. This combination of plenty of guns and few laws regulating them has resulted in a crime rate that is the third lowest in the nation

" America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards."

This makes sense! There is no reason why gun owners should have to pay taxes to support police protection for people not wanting to own guns. Let them contribute their fair share and pay their own way.

DOWN SEATTLE PARK GUN BAN


SEATTLE, WA - A King County Superior Court judge has ruled in favor of a lawsuit filed by the Second Amendment Foundation and National Rifle Association, striking down a ban on guns in city parks because it violates Washington State's long-standing preemption statute.

Judge Catherine Shaffer ruled from the bench that the gun ban, adopted under former Mayor Greg Nickels, violates Washington's law, which placed sole authority for regulating firearms in the hands of the State Legislature. That law was adopted in 1983 and amended in 1985, and has served as a model for similar laws across the country.

SAF and NRA were joined in the lawsuit by the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, the Washington Arms Collectors and five individual plaintiffs.

"This is a great victory for the rule of law and Washington citizens," said SAF Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. "Greg Nickels was so blinded by his personal hatred for firearms owners and his own arrogance that he imagined the city under his control could simply ignore state law. That arrogance cost Nickels his job last year. We repeatedly warned him not to push a gun ban, but he refused to listen.

"It is also a victory for the Legislature," he observed, "because this case affirms the intent of lawmakers in 1983 to prevent cities like Seattle from creating a nightmare patchwork of conflicting and confusing firearms regulations. The ruling solidifies the legislature's authority and sends a message to city and county governments to stop meddling with the rights of Washington citizens."

Gottlieb suggested a review of local ordinances may now be in order, so that city and county governments can be compelled to remove old gun regulations or face legal consequences.

"This ruling puts anti-gun local officials on notice that legally-armed citizens have rights, too," Gottlieb stated.
