Columbine father-----12 years later...

Guess our national leaders didn't expect this, hmm? On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton , Colorado , was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.

They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness.. The following is a portion of the transcript:

Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.

The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart.

In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA - because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent.

I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy -- it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best.

Your laws ignore our deepest needs,  Your words are empty air.  You've stripped away our heritage,  You've outlawed simple prayer.  Now gunshots fill our classrooms,  And precious children die.  You seek for answers everywhere,  And ask the question "Why?"  You regulate restrictive laws,  Through legislative creed.  And yet you fail to understand,  That God is what we need!

Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational  systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs -- politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.

As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA -- I give to you a sincere challenge.. Dare to examine your own
heart before casting the first stone!  My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not
allow that to happen!"
                                                         ...........Darrell Scott

Dealing With Muslims

Two Black Americans were elected to congress this cycle, and both are Republican.   Col. West is from southern  Florida .   He won in a walk.

This new Congressman was an extremely popular commander in  Iraq .  He was forced to retire because during an intense combat action a few of his men were captured.   At the same time his men captured one of the guys who were with the Iraqis who captured his men.

Knowing that time was crucial and his interrogators were not getting anywhere with the prisoner, Col. West took matters into his own hands.  He burst into the room and demanded thru an interpreter that the prisoner tell him where his men were being taken.  The prisoner refused so Col. West took out his pistol and placed it into the prisoner's crotch and fired.   Then the  Col. told the prisoner that the next shot would not miss.  So the prisoner said he would show where the American service members were being taken.  The Americans were rescued.  Someone filed a report on incorrect handling of prisoners.  Col. West was forced to retire.  Col. West was just elected in November 2010 to Congress from  Florida .   During the elections he was part of a panel on how to handle or how to relate to Muslims.   You will see his answer here explaining in just over a minute the truth about Islam.  Please watch and if you agree, please forward it to your friends; if you disagree, you're an idiot.  Hit the delete button.

The Wedding - get your tissues out

An unbelievable story of unselfishness and courage under the most
impossible situation with an inevitable outcome.
How's this story for a reminder that "We don't
know we're alive".

Her name is Katie Kirkpatrick, 21 yrs old. Next to
her is her fiancé, Nick, 23. This picture was taken
prior to their wedding January 11th, 2005.  Katie
has terminal cancer and spends hours in chemotherapy. Here Nick awaits while she
finishes one of the sessions... Even in pain and dealing with her organs shutting down, with the help of morphine, Katie took care
of every single part of the wedding planning.  Her dress had to be adjusted several times due to Katie 's constant weight loss.

An expected guest was her oxygen tank. Katie
had to use it during the ceremony and reception.
The other couple in this picture is Nick's parents,
very emotional with the wedding and to see their
son marrying the girl he fell in love when he was
an adolescent. Katie, in a wheel chair listening to her husband
and friends singing to her. In the middle of the party, Katie had to rest for a
bit and catch her breath. The pain does not allow
her to stand for long period of time. Katie died 5 days after her wedding. To see a
fragile woman dress as bride with a beautiful
smile makes you think... Happiness is always
there within reach, no matter how long it lasts.
Let's enjoy life and don't live a complicated life.
Life is too short.
Work as if it was your first day.  Forgive as soon
as possible.
Love without boundaries.  Laugh without control
and never stop smiling  Please pray for those
suffering from cancer.
Keep this going.
Now you're on the clock!!!!
In 9 minutes something will make you happy. ;-)
But you have to tell this story to 9 people, Go!!!!

My tax return was returned again.

Sent to me by the G-man. I am sure this has been floating around the web for a while. Don't know if it is for real, as far as someone actually putting this on their return, but it is true none the less.

I thought it was at least a partially correct answer...although, I may have underestimated on all - but the last one.

The IRS sent my Tax Return back AGAIN, because of my response to the question: "List all dependents?"

I replied:

"12 million illegal immigrants;
"3 million crack heads;
"42 million unemployable people on food stamps,
"2 million criminals in over 243 prisons;
"Half of Mexico ; and
"535 fools in the U.S. House and Senate.”

Apparently this was not an acceptable answer.

Shoot More Police ????

Subject: Shoot More Police ????

I don’t know when this photo was taken, but it certainly calls into question freedom of speech, if you ask me.

Why isn’t this person with the sign
“we will shoot more police" not being arrested?

If you can look at this picture, read the sign and
DO NOT    Pass this on . . .
SHAME ON YOU!
Take a good look at the sign he is holding!
OK, all you pushing  for illegal immigrants' rights.... Here is one of the
Reasons we have a problem with it.
We are the ones that will have to pay for the welfare of these immigrants,
depriving all of our natural citizens!!

"Give us what we demand or we will shoot your loved ones" .

This is only one of the several reasons the U.S.A. Is falling apart.

REMEMBER JANUARY 3, 2007

emailed to me by a contributor.

Subject: REMEMBER JANUARY 3, 2007
The day the Democrats took over was not January 22nd 2009, it was actually January 3rd 2007, the day the Democrats took over the House of Representatives and the Senate, at the very start of the 110th Congress.

The Democratic Party controlled a majority in both chambers for the first time since the end of the 103rd Congress in 1995.

For those who are listening to the liberals propagating the fallacy that everything is "Bush's Fault", think about this:
January 3rd, 2007, the day the Democrats took over the Senate and the Congress:
The DOW Jones closed at 12,621.77
The
GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5%
The Unemployment rate was 4.6%
George Bush's Economic policies SET A RECORD of 52 STRAIGHT MONTHS of
JOB CREATION!
Remember that day...
January 3rd, 2007 was the day that Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee.
The economic meltdown that happened 15 months later was in what part of the economy?
BANKING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES!
THANK YOU DEMOCRATS (especially Barney Frank) for taking us from 13,000 DOW, 3.5 GDP and 4.6% Unemployment...to this CRISIS by (among MANY other things) dumping 5-6 TRILLION Dollars of toxic loans on the economy from YOUR Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac FIASCOES!
(BTW: Bush asked Congress 17 TIMES to stop Fannie & Freddie -starting in 2001 because it was financially risky for the US economy). Barney Frank blocked it and called it a "Chicken Little Philosophy" (and the sky did fall!)
And who took the THIRD highest pay-off from Fannie Mae
AND Freddie Mac? OBAMA
And who fought against reform of Fannie and Freddie?
OBAMA and the Democrat Congress, especially
Barney Frank!!!!
So when someone tries to blame Bush...
REMEMBER JANUARY 3rd, 2007.... THE
DAY THE DEMOCRATS TOOK OVER!"
Bush may have been in the car but the Democrats were in charge of the gas pedal and steering wheel they were driving the economy into the ditch.
Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from Congress and the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is the Democratic Party.
Furthermore, the Democrats controlled the budget process for 2008 & 2009 as well as 2010 & 2011.
In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.
For 2009 though, Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the 2009 budget.
And where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete 2009. Let's remember what the deficits looked like during that period:
If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets.
If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself.
In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is "I inherited a deficit that I voted for,
And then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January 20th."
There is no way this will be widely publicized, unless each of us sends it on!
"The problems we face today exist because the people who work for a living are outnumbered by those who vote for a living."

YOU GOTTA LOVE THIS....Uninsured Cars Off The Road

YOU GOTTA LOVE THIS.....

    Uninsured Cars  Off The  Road

Recently,  the City of Dallas , Texas , passed an  ordinance  stating that if
a driver  is  pulled over by law enforcement and is not able to  provide
proof of  insurance,  the car is towed.

To retrieve  the car after being  impounded, they must show  proof of
insurance  to have  the car released. This has made it easy for the City of
Dallas to  remove uninsured  cars.

Shortly after the "No  Insurance"  ordinance was passed, the Dallas impound
lots began  to fill up  and were full after only nine days.
80 + % of the  impounded  cars were driven by  illegals.

Not only must they  provide  proof of insurance to have their car  released,
they have  to pay  for the cost of the tow, a $350 fine, and $20 for every
day their  car is kept in the  lot.

Accident rates have gone  down   47%and... Dallas ' solution gets  uninsured
drivers  off the  road WITHOUT making them show proof of   nationality.

Wonder how the ACLU  or the Justice Department  will get around this  one.

Just brings tears to  my  eyes.

GO   Dallas !

Dear friend,

I just emailed Congress to urge them to oppose the Internet Blacklist Legislation, known as the PROTECT-IP Act in the Senate and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the House. This legislation seeks to give the executive branch power to conduct slash-and-burn campaigns against websites that allegedly host – or even link to – content that infringes on intellectual property rights. That would “disappear” whole domain names, fundamentally undermining Internet security, and/or choke off their financial support. The Internet Blacklist Legislation puts more sites than ever at risk, effectively upending the DMCA safe harbors that have been crucial to the growth of Internet innovation and creativity.

Sadly, these short-sighted and dangerous bills won’t do much to stop online infringement – but they will jeopardize our ability to speak and read online with the kind of freedom we cherish in the offline world. Deep-pocketed Hollywood lobbyists are aggressively pushing to control and censor the open Internet, willing to sacrifice free speech and our Internet culture in hopes of controlling how people view their movies and products.

We need to stop this bill before it goes any further. Will you contact your representatives in Congress and urge them to oppose the Internet Blacklist Legislation? Visit: https://eff.org/r.C8A

WE DON'T HAVE TOO MANY

FRIENDS...........JUST GOOD FRIENDS

Let's see if you send this onward...

A farmer had some puppies he
needed to sell. He painted a sign advertising the 4 pups and
Set about nailing it to a post
on the edge of his yard.
As he was driving the last nail into the post, he felt a tug on his overallsHe looked down into the eyes of a little boy. "Mister," he said, "I want to buy one of your puppies." "Well," said the farmer, as he rubbed the sweat off the back of his neck, "These puppies come from fine parents and cost a good deal of money." The boy dropped his head for a moment. Then reaching deep into his pocket, he pulled out a handful of change and held it up to the farmer. "I've got thirty-nine cents. Is that enough to take a look?" "Sure," said the farmer.  And with that he let out a whistle. "Here, Dolly!" he called. Out from the doghouse and down the ramp ran Dolly followed by four little balls of fur. The little boy pressed his face against the chain link fence. His eyes danced with delight. As the dogs made their way to the fence, the little boy noticed something else stirring inside the doghouse.Slowly another little ball appeared, this one noticeably smaller.Down the ramp it slid. Then in a somewhat awkward
manner, the little pup began hobbling toward the others, doing its best to catch up..."I want that one," the little boy said, pointing to the runt.
The farmer knelt down at the boy's side and said,"Son, you don't want that puppy. He will never be able to run and play with you like these other dogs would."With that the little boy stepped back from the fence,
reached down, and began rolling up one leg of his
trousers. In doing so he revealed a steel brace running down both sides of his leg attaching itself to a specially made shoe. Looking back up at the farmer, he said, "You see sir, I don't run too well myself, and he will need someone who understands." With tears in his eyes, the farmer reached down and picked up the little
pup.
Holding it carefully he handed it to the little boy."How much?" asked the little boy... "No charge," answered the farmer, "There's no charge for love."

The world is fullof people who need someone who understands.

It's National Friendship Week.

Show your friends how much you care. Send this to everyone you consider a FRIEND.
as well as those who WERE!!!
If it comes back to you,
then you'll know you have

Pickle Jar

The pickle jar as far back as I can remember sat on the floor beside the dresser in my parents' bedroom.
When he got ready for bed, Dad would empty his pockets and toss his coins into the jar.
As a small boy, I was always fascinated at the sounds the coins made as they were dropped into the jar

They landed with a merry jingle when the jar was almost empty. Then the tones gradually muted to a dull thud as the jar was filled.

I used to squat on the floor in front of the jar to admire
the copper and silver circles that glinted like a pirate's
treasure when the sun poured through the bedroom window. When the jar was filled, Dad would sit at the kitchen table
and roll the coins before taking them to the bank.

Taking the coins to the bank was always a big production.
Stacked neatly in a small cardboard box, the coins were placed between Dad and me on the seat of his old truck.

Each and every time, as we drove to the bank, Dad would
look at me hopefully. 'Those coins are going to keep you out of the textile mill, son. You're going to do better than me. This old mill town's not going to hold you back.'

Also, each and every time, as he slid the box of rolled coins across the counter at the bank toward the cashier,
he would grin proudly. 'These are for my son's college fund. He'll never work at the mill all his life like me.'

We would always celebrate each deposit by stopping for an ice cream cone. I always got chocolate. Dad
always got vanilla. When the clerk at the ice cream parlor handed Dad his change, he would show me the few coins nestled in his palm. 'When we get home, we'll start filling the jar again.' He always let me drop the first coins into the empty jar. As they rattled around with a brief, happy jingle, we grinned at each other. 'You'll get to college on pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters,' he said. 'But you'll get there; I'll see to that.'No matter how rough things got at home, Dad continued to doggedly drop his coins into the jar. Even the summer when Dad got laid off from the mill, and Mama had to serve dried beans several times a week, not a single dime was taken from the jar.

To the contrary, as Dad looked across the table at me,
pouring catsup over my beans to make them more palatable, he became more determined than ever to make a way out for me 'When you finish college, Son,' he told me, his eyes glistening, 'You'll never have to eat beans again - unless you want to.'

The years passed, and I finished college and took a job in another town. Once, while visiting my parents, I used the phone in their bedroom, and noticed that the pickle jar was gone. It had served its purpose and had been removed.

A lump rose in my throat as I stared at the spot beside
the dresser where the jar had always stood. My dad
was a man of few words: he never lectured me on the values of determination, perseverance, and faith. The
pickle jar had taught me all these virtues far more eloquently than the most flowery of words could have
done. When I married, I told my wife Susan about the
significant part the lowly pickle jar had played in my
life as a boy. In my mind, it defined, more than anything else, how much my dad had loved me.

The first Christmas after our daughter Jessica was born, we spent the holiday with my parents. After dinner, Mom and Dad sat next to each other on the sofa, taking turns cuddling their first grandchild. Jessica began to whimper softly, and Susan took her from Dad's arms. 'She probably needs to be changed,' she said, carrying the baby into my parents' bedroom to diaper her. When Susan came back into the living room, there was a strange mist in her eyes.

She handed Jessica back to Dad before taking my hand and leading me into the room. 'Look,' she said softly, her eyes directing me to a spot on the floor beside the dresser. To my amazement, there, as if it had never been removed,
stood the old pickle jar, the bottom already covered with coins. I walked over to the pickle jar, dug down into my pocket, and pulled out a fistful of coins. With a gamut of
emotions choking me, I dropped the coins into the jar. I looked up and saw that Dad, carrying Jessica, had slipped quietly into the room. Our eyes locked, and I knew he was feeling the same emotions I felt. Neither one of us could speak.

This truly touched my heart. Sometimes we are so busy adding up our troubles that we forget to count our blessings.
Never underestimate the power of your actions.   With one small gesture you can change a person's life, for better or for worse.

God puts us all in each others lives to impact one another
in some way. Look for GOOD in others.  - Happy moments, praise God.
- Difficult moments, seek God.
- Quiet moments, worship God.
- Painful moments, trust God.
- Every moment, thank God.

1.6 Million Occupy Capitol Hill - SHOUT REPEAL!

RepealHeader-ObamaCare.jpg

TODAY, WE TAKE THE HILL!
JOIN SENATOR JIM DEMINT & CONGRESSMAN STEVE KING

RAISE YOUR VOICE BY CALLING HARRY REID TODAY!

cap-phone-burning-210.jpg Last week I told you, "Political shockwaves are moving across Democratic ranks in the Senate with the speed and power of a tsunami!"
It was our chance and more than 60,000 of you answered the call, picked up the phone and helped us flood the Capitol switchboard. Thank you.

Now let's get the nation's attention!

This morning I personally delivered 1.6 million petitions to leading Senators and Congressman in a press conference facing our Capitol.

I told the national media that the American people are demanding the repeal of ObamaCare.

I told them that this demand comes from every corner of the nation. I told them that we will not stop until ObamaCare is gone.

And with your help, I will continue to tell them that we are again jamming the phones of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid--as I speak in front of the Capitol.

With 1.6 million petition signatures behind me, I told the national press that all of us are calling to make our point crystal clear to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Reporters will doubtlessly check. Please don't let me down. We must once again roar our will and make the point so loud it can't be ignored..

I am asking you to once again call the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121  and ask for Harry Reid's office. Tell him that unlike the health care bill they rammed down our throats, you want him and his colleagues to READ THE PETITIONS! And LISTEN TO US FOR ONCE! WE SPEAK FOR THE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS!

This Fight is Expensive, But It Deserves Our Best Effort
Please Support Us NOW & Call Harry Reid Wednesday
(202) 224-3121

We're asking every supporter to make a phone call to Washington, D.C. to tell Harry Reid that we demand the repeal of ObamaCare!

CALL the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask for Harry Reid. Tell him that you want this disaster repealed and you want it repealed now!  And tell him your petition is being delivered today and that the American people are speaking!

Together we can ring their phones off the hook. And the media will be there to report it. They will be able to see and hear for themselves that Americans like you will not be kept silent!

And with your generous donation of whatever you can afford, we will keep up the pressure! Please support Restore America's Voice Foundation today.

This Fight is Expensive, But It Deserves Our Best Effort
Please Support Us NOW & Call Harry Reid Wednesday
(202) 224-3121

obama-reid-msg.jpgThis is the opening grassroots tactic to wake up Senate Democrats to the reality that they work for us. Thery occupy offices that we've leased to them and the landlord is on the phone!

Delivering more than a million petitions, thousands of faxes, 700,000 voice recorded petitions (sent to Senate answering machines at night) and personal visits from me to each Senate office with armloads of petitions costs a lot of money... Please support Restore America's Voice Foundation today.

This is the moment when the rubber meets the road.

Call the Senate Switchboard NOW (202) 224-3121!

We need four more votes to win a majority for repeal.

Let Harry Reid and Barack Obama try to explain that away!

Sincerely,

Ken Hoagland
Chairman
Restore America's Voice Foundation

P.S. Thanks to you we have publicly hand-delivered more than half a million citizen petitions to Congressional leaders! Cracks are forming, even in places like New York City where a pro-ObamaCare Democrat just lost the district-the first Democratic loss in more than 80 years! Please continue to take a stand, be heard and help stop this destructive, expensive and unwanted government takeover of our healthcare system - Call Harry Reid Wednesday, (202) 224-3121 and support our efforts today.

Hate Crime?

This past Monday, I received a disturbing call from Phil Eddy, our Northeast Regional Coordinator, telling me that he had just heard from Sara, Founder of the University of Buffalo (UB) Students for Life group and SFLA Wilberforce Fellow, who said:
that the Cemetery of Innocents display that the Students for Life group put up Sunday evening, memorializing the innocent lives lost to abortion, was completely torn up by four unknown vandals!
Sara then told Phil that a blurry campus surveillance video showed four individuals methodically ripping up each and every cross and sign making up the display, and disposing of them in trash bags.
Last night, Phil and I had an emergency call with Sara, and Phil posted notes from our call on his blog:

"After the events of Monday, members of the UB Students for Life kept a watchful eye on the display throughout the day on Tuesday, and, at one point, they witnessed a small group of angry women forming around the display.  Two began to rip up the crosses, and someone described as 'older, at least 40 years old, and possibly a faculty member' reportedly yelled 'Hey ladies, let's start a riot.'  This incited six more people to begin tearing up crosses, and they continued until campus police arrived.
In total eight people were caught vandalizing the display Monday and Tuesday and at least one of them is facing criminal charges - the arresting officer insinuating that they might be charged with a Hate Crime."
If so, this would be the first time - that we're aware of  - in which individuals would be charged with committing a hate crime for vandalizing a pro-life display.

Sadly, this is not the first time students at the University of Buffalo - or other pro-life students from across the country - have been targeted with violence for their beliefs. You may recall that back in May, I wrote to you about the vandalism that the UB Students for Life group endured during their first event on campus. Truly, this group is making an impact on their campus.

I am so proud of Sara and the UB Students for Life group for standing strong in the face of such overwhelming adversity. Phil is traveling up to Buffalo as soon as possible to be there to support them in case they face backlash, which we are expecting, from the school administration.
And we are also planning a follow-up event to show the the University of Buffalo that pro-life students are strong and will NOT let their beliefs be swayed by a group of cowards.

Today, call the University of Buffalo and tell them that you support UB Students for Life and their right to be on campus. Let them know that these acts of vandalism are wrong, and they need to do something to protect the free speech of pro-lifers on campus! Call the UB Department of Student Activities at (716)-645-2055 or UB Student Activities Head, Kerry Spicer, at (716) 645-2055.

No matter what, we will continue to fight and to provide support to you as you fight for the most defenseless among us.

I know we will win in the end because the truth is on our side! Thank you for everything you do for the preborn and their mothers.

For Life,

Kristan Hawkins

This is the real truth about business in our economy!

Sent to me by a Contributor TL with thanks

This letter could have been written by any business person who has started and managed his own company. Obviously the consequences can be more serious when you are a smaller firm.

To All My Valued Employees,

There have been some rumblings around the office about the future of this company, and more specifically, your job. As you know, the economy has changed for the worse and presents many challenges. However, the good news is this: The economy doesn't pose a threat to your job.

What does threaten your job however, is the changing political landscape in this country. Of course, as your employer, I am forbidden to tell you whom to vote for - it is against the law to discriminate based on political affiliation, race, creed, religion, etc.

Please vote for who you think will serve your interests the best. However, let me tell you some little tidbits of fact which might help you decide what is in your best interest. First, while it is easy to spew rhetoric that casts employers against employees, you have to understand that for every business owner there is a back story.

This back story is often neglected and overshadowed by what you see and hear.  Sure, you see me park my Mercedes outside.  You saw my big home at last years Christmas party. I'm sure all these flashy icons of luxury conjure up some idealized thoughts about my life. However, what you don't see is the back story.

I started this company 12 years ago. At that time, I lived in a 300 square foot studio apartment for 3 years. My entire living space was converted into an office so I could put forth 100% effort into building a company, which by the way, would eventually employ you.

My diet consisted of Ramen Pride noodles because every dollar I spent went back into this company. I drove a rusty Toyota Corolla with a defective transmission. I didn't have time to date. Often times, I stayed home on weekends, while my friends went out drinking and partying. In fact, I was married to my business -- hard work, discipline, and sacrifice.

Meanwhile, my friends got jobs. They worked 40 hours a week and made a modest $50K a year and spent every dime they earned. They drove flashy cars and lived in expensive homes and wore fancy designer clothes.  Instead of hitting Nordstrom's for the latest hot fashion item, I was trolling through the Goodwill store extracting any clothing item that didn't look like it was birthed in the 70's.

My friends refinanced their mortgages and lived a life of luxury. I, however, did not. I put my time, my money, and my life into a business --- with a vision that eventually, some day, I too, will be able to afford these luxuries my friends supposedly had.

So, while you physically arrive at the office at 9 am, mentally check in at about noon, and then leave at 5 pm, I don't. There is no "off" button for me. When you leave the office, you are done and you have a weekend all to yourself.  I unfortunately do not have the freedom.  I eat, ****, and breathe this company every minute of the day. There is no rest. There is no weekend. There is no happy hour. Every day this business is attached to me like a 1 day old baby.

You, of course, only see the fruits of that garden -- the nice house, the Mercedes, the vacations... You never realize the back story and the sacrifices I've made. Now, the economy is falling apart and I, the guy that made all the right decisions and saved his money, have to bail out all the people who didn't.

The people that overspent their paychecks suddenly feel entitled to the same luxuries that I earned and sacrificed a decade of my life for.  Yes, business ownership has its benefits but the price I've paid is steep and not without wounds. Unfortunately, the cost of running this business, and employing you, is starting to eclipse the threshold of marginal benefit and let me tell you why:

I am being taxed to death and the government thinks I don't pay enough. I have state taxes. Federal taxes. Property taxes. Sales and use taxes. Payroll taxes. Workers compensation taxes. Unemployment taxes. Taxes on taxes. I have to hire a tax man to manage all these taxes and then guess what?   I have to pay taxes for employing him. Government mandates and regulations and all the accounting that goes with it, now occupy most of my time. On Oct 15th, I wrote a check to the US Treasury for $288,000 for quarterly taxes.  You know what my "stimulus" check was? Zero. Nada. Zilch.

The question I have is this: Who is stimulating the economy? Me, the guy who has provided 14 people good paying jobs and serves over 2,200,000 people per year with a flourishing business? Or, the single mother sitting at home pregnant with her fourth child waiting for her next welfare check?

Obviously, government feels the latter is the economic stimulus of this country. The fact is, if I deducted (Read: Stole) 50% of your paycheck you'd quit and you wouldn't work here. I mean, why should you? That's nuts. Who wants to get rewarded only 50% of their hard work? Well, I agree which is why your job is in jeopardy. Here is what many of you don't understand ... to stimulate the economy you need to stimulate what runs the economy. Had suddenly government mandated to me that I didn't need to pay taxes, guess what?   Instead of depositing that $288,000 into the Washington black-hole, I would have spent it, hired more employees, and generated substantial economic growth. My employees would have enjoyed the wealth of that tax cut in the form of promotions and better salaries. But you can forget it now.

When you have a comatose man on the verge of death, you don't defibrillate and shock his thumb thinking that will bring him back to life, do you? Or, do you defibrillate his heart?   Business is at the heart of America and always has been. To restart it, you must stimulate it, not kill it. Suddenly, the power brokers in Washington believe the mud of America are the essential drivers of the American economic engine.

Nothing could be further from the truth and this is the type of change you can keep. So where am I going with all this? It's quite simple. If any new taxes are levied on me, or my company, my reaction will be swift and simple. I fire you. I fire your co-workers.   You can then plead with the government to pay for your mortgage, your SUV, and your child's future. Frankly, it isn't my problem any more. Then, I will close this company down, move to another country, and retire.

You see, I'm done. I'm done with a country that penalizes the productive and gives to the unproductive. My motivation to work and to provide jobs will be destroyed, and with it, will be my citizenship.

While tax cuts to 95% of America sounds great on paper, don't forget the back story: If there is no job, there is no income to tax. A tax cut on zero dollars is zero. So, when you make decision to vote, ask yourself, who understands the economics of business ownership and who doesn't?  Whose policies will endanger your job? Answer those questions and you should know who might be the one capable of saving your job. While the media wants to tell you "It's the economy Stupid" I'm telling you it isn't.

If you lose your job, it won't be at the hands of the economy; it will be at the hands of a political hurricane that swept through this country, steamrolled the Constitution, and will have changed its landscape forever. If that happens, you can find me in the South Caribbean sitting on a beach, retired, and with no employees to worry about.

Signed, Your boss,
