Feature Article: Winning the Debate

As FairTax supporters, we come across a lot of questions when we tell Americans about the transformation the FairTax would bring to our nation.
Objections vary from person to person but we want to highlight some short answers and have included more detailed research to reassure any skeptic.
Also, all FairTaxers should also save this very thorough paper, "The FairTax: Fundamentals and Facts" that answers common technical questions.

I used to believe in the Fairtax, mostly because our tax code is so horrible.

And Fairtax claimed all this great research.

The research, according to Fairtax Book, was done by Dale Jorgenson, and it apparently proved that prices would drop 22%, and the average take home pay would go up 50%.

Yes, it would be a very high sales tax, but prices wouldn't go up much. About 1% increase in prices.

But with 50% more take home pay -- WHO CARES!.

And this was all researched. That was the big thing. This was researched by the best!

Funny thing, though. Dale JOrgenson, the guy that did the research, came out against Fairtax. It wasn't someone disputing Jorgenson's research. Jorgenson, according to Boortz, was the "world's leading authority" on "embedde taxes".

And this guy -- the world's leading authority on embedded taxes -- said Fairtax was wrong. He didn't support Fairtax or anything like it.

Wow. Just WOW.

Then President Bush asked for a study done -- he heard all these great things. A group of non-partisan experts went over Fairtax.

Guess what they found?

Yes, you COULD have a national sales tax on personal consumption to replace all other fed taxes. And that rate could be 23%, at least on paper.

BUT -- and this is a huge BUT -- that would replace income tax only.

To replace ALL other fed taxes, it would need more like a 89% tax rate.

Fairtax was essentially saying 1% -- they admitted to 23%, but remember, prices would come down 22. And Fairtax said our pay would go way up.

Jorgenson -- the expert -- said no. No on pay going up too. He said we would all have to take a 20% pay CUT. CUT!!

Clearlly something was really really wrong somewhere.
