ALASKAN CLYDESDALE

Only in Alaska.......
This guy raised an abandoned moose calf with his horses, and believe it or not, he has trained it for lumber removal and other hauling tasks. Given the 2,000 pounds of robust muscle, and the splayed, grippy hooves, he claims it is the best work animal he has. He says the secret to keeping the moose around is a sweet salt lick, although during the rut he disappears for a couple of weeks, but always comes home.... Impressive!!

Bound to be someone out there that will raise some issues with this treatment of a wild animal. To them I say. "If the Moose keeps coming back, what's the problem?"

Mob Rule in D.C.

"The Law: Of all the alarming things going on in Washington these days nothing is as shocking, or disheartening, as the collapse in respect for the rule of law and the Constitution. Just look at the flap over AIG's bonuses."

From The Club for Growth

Congress was entirely consumed this week with trying to punish the AIG executives who received $165 million in bonuses despite running the company into the ground. House Democrats decided a 90% tax (!!) would do the trick. This was a hotly contested proposal. People on both sides of the aisle rightly felt that those executives didn't deserve the money. But there were also strong concerns about the constitutionality of the tax hike. In the end, it was a bad bill that should have been defeated. Unfortunately, it passed 328-93. All but six Democrats voted for it, while the Republicans were evenly split 85-87. Afterwards, we found a statement written by Club favorite Rep. John Campbell (R-CA) that we thought was a great explanation for why voting "no" was the correct choice. Here it is:

    Taxing Bonuses
    by John Campbell

I firmly opposed and voted "no" on HR 1586. Let's first understand exactly what the bill does. It imposes a 90% federal income tax on any bonus paid to any employee of any company that has received over $5 Billion in federal rescue funds. Such companies include, Bank of America, Wells Fargo Bank, Chase Bank, JP Morgan, CitiBank, Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, Wachovia, Washington Mutual, Countrywide, Goldman Sachs, AIG, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac amongst others. The tax would only apply to people with total joint incomes over $250,000 or single individuals with income of over $125,000. When combined with California Income taxes which now top out at 10.55%, this can be a tax just short of 101% of the income.

Under this law, a bank teller at Wells Fargo could receive a bonus of $1,000 for doing a great job. If that bank teller was married to a physician who made $175,000 and they had some additional investment income, that bank teller would pay a tax of $1,055 on the bonus of $1,000 that they received for doing a good job. This is horrible!

This is not raising revenues, this is punishment. It is a terrible precedent to use the tax laws for punishment. If we go down this road, the government can impose a 100% tax on anyone they don't like, or anyone they believe is paid too much. Employees of other companies, doing the same thing for the same bonus, will not receive this tax. That probably makes it unconstitutional and I hope it does.

I understand the public outrage over these bonuses and I share much of it. But this is not the way to fix it. Sue them to get the money back. But don't do this.

You may or may not realize it, but embezzlement income is taxable today, but at normal rates. So if you steal money, you will not have a tax higher than normal. You may be forced to give the money back because you stole it, but it will not be taxed away from you. This bill makes a bonus from Bank of America a more egregious offense under the tax laws than bank robbery.

All of this was caused because we nationalized companies that are created to make a profit. Throughout time, governments have shown themselves to be particularly inept at such an enterprise. This is another example of why.

Have a great weekend!

Best Regards,
Pat Toomey     Andrew Roth

Press Release-Tim Utz, My Heritage, NRA endorses Tim Utz, Wash Soda Can Lids, MISC

March 10th Legislative Report #28

On March 9, 2009 our elected leaders introduced another *134 bills, bringing the total this year to 1538. A reasonable person must ask the question, have we lost our minds at the capital? The answer is a resounding yes.

In order to balance the $6.4 billion budget shortfall in the 69 days remaining in session our leaders must reconcile $93,753,623 a day in shortfalls, 7 days a week. In addition, deal with review, amend, and hold hearings in multiple committees, drop, table, or pass 22 bills a day 7 days a week.

Total irresponsibility on the part of our state elected leadership and not a possible task. Even more disturbing is after the session ends, just like last year, the same people will tour the state touting all the wonderful actions taken in 2009 for the good of Minnesota.

The fact is, last year, legislators including Carolyn Laine our current House Representative, left our current budget cycle short $935,000,000.00, and then paraded the state bragging of balancing the budget. With a $6.4 billion shortfall now, I fear the condition of Minnesota this year when the dust settles at the capital.

Dear Chris,

We received your NRA-PVF Campaign Ballot sent February 23, 2009. We agree 100% that we must fight the gun battle on a Federal and State level.  Allow us to introduce Tim Utz for State House Representative who is pro-gun!  Thank you for taking a moment to look at Tim's web site.   www.TimUtzforHouse.com

He will support conservative values, fiscal restraint, and constitutional freedoms. Our focus is Second Amendment rights. Tim is a 30 year Union Carpenter and Reserve Police Officer. He began his first ever campaign late summer of 2008 when no leadership was evident to run against a local progressive/very liberal incumbent, Carolyn Laine. He shut down the 'we love Obama fever' by gaining percentage points in our District and his opponent LOST points, although she did win.   He personally invested over $7,000.

Tim Utz is a strong candidate who is now in full campaign mode; he appreciates all exposure and support. We have had 'info' tables three weekends with Crocodile Productions and with MN Weapons Collectors at the Minneapolis Convention Center. He is gathering public recognition and momentum!  More 'gun shows' up and coming! We have reserved ‘spots’ in three local parades to introduce conservative values to thousands. Tim needs your early support to get his message to the people of MN.  We don’t want to run out of stamps again. The targeted soft Democrats, Independents and ‘Fed-Up’ that received hand addressed and his hand signed letters voted for him!  Election results are posted on his web page.  We will win in 2010.

NRA Endorsement: "A" Rated

The Campaign Committee for Constitutional Republicans is very pleased to receive an endorsement for Tim Utz from the National Rifle Association-PVF. We officially received the endorsement via letter on October 6th 2008. The NRA-PVF support and endorsement reflect Tim’s commitment to upholding constitutional principles and the Rule of Law. Our campaign graciously accepts this honorable endorsement.

Minnesota needs conservative votes in the State House!

We hope to hear from the NRA soon.  Our campaign appreciates your financial support.

This is Serious!

This incident happened recently in  North Texas .

A woman went boating one Sunday taking with her some cans of coke which she put into the refrigerator of the boat. On Monday she was taken to the hospital and placed in the Intensive Care Unit. She died on Wednesday.

The autopsy concluded she died of Leptospirosis. This was traced to the can of coke she drank from, not using a glass. Tests showed that the can was infected by dried rat urine and hence the disease Leptospirosis.

Rat urine contains toxic and deathly substances. It is highly recommended to thoroughly wash the upper part of soda cans before drinking out of them. The cans are typically stocked in warehouses and transported straight to the shops without being cleaned.

A study at NYCU showed that the tops of soda cans are more contaminated than public toilets (I.e).. Full of germs and bacteria. So wash them with water before putting them to the mouth to avoid any kind of fatal accident.

Please forward this message to all the people you care about.

Immigration Enforcement Actions at Six Facilities

"On December 12, 2006, about 1,300 illegal immigrants working at six meat processing plants owned by Swift & Co. were arrested in the largest immigration enforcement action in U.S. history. Other illegal workers, fearful of future raids, stopped reporting to work. Additionally, in the months prior to the raids, new employee screening by Swift led to the loss of about 400 illegal workers. The plants are located in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Texas, Colorado, and Utah. This report examines the raids and their aftermath."

AIG Debacle

This AIG bonus debacle has just hit home to me why envy is one of the Seven Deadly Sins. Envy gives people the self-righteous excuse to covet what others have. Put aside for a moment the religious belief that if you are guilty any of these deadly sins you will go to hell. Just look at it from the deleterious and destructive point of view.
You people who were outraged by AIG following the law and giving out bonus to their employees were played like a Stradivarius Violin. You allowed your good sense to be manipulated by people of poor character and immoral natures once again. There have been death threats and all kinds of negative, destructive happenings against people that did no wrong. And why I ask? The law was followed even if you don’t like it. And if you didn’t like it whom did you go after? You went after the people that followed the law. Not the creator of that law.
You have done this because you have a misplaced trust or hope in an entity that encompasses neither hope or trust. Hope and trust are not merits of government. It is simply not the nature of government. It is akin to giving human traits to animals. It is delusional to give government traits it does not and cannot have.
And this is why it is so utterly important that we have people of sound mind and virtuous nature in government, to counteract the nature of government. Why good character is so important in the legislators we elect. Why telling the truth is so important. And knowing how destructive the opposite is.
    Term Limits anyone?
The irrational mob we have now in Washington D.C. is not near the worst that will come. It will continue to get worse because the citizens of this country have compromised and given up there power to thugs who neither care about truth or justice nor right or wrong nor good or evil.
It is the little things that matter most some times. Like understanding when someone is trying to play you and avoiding it.
The government-organized schools have done a great job of destroying the little things and thus the big things were easy to never teach.
You either understand that the constitution is a limit on the Federal Government or you don’t. You either understand liberty is the most productive, self accountable, JUST way to live. Or you believe that the proper way for man to live is as a slave.
There is no half way on this. There is no one alive right now that has even live in a truly capitalist society. They are dead and gone just like liberty. People think they can pick and choose what part of freedom they can have and others can’t have. Thus no one has any of it.

Put that in you pipe and smoke it you fools!

Record Turn Out For GOP

Record Turnout for GOP Reaffirms Takala

A record seventy people turned out to the Pine County Republicans’ annual convention on the evening of March 9th to either participate in or observe proceedings that saw Mike Cummins, last year’s Republican opponent to Congressman Jim Oberstar, face off against Rudy Takala in an election to chair the group.

Takala, a twenty-year- old graduate of Hamline University, has chaired the group for the past two years and is the only Republican so far to announce candidacy for the House seat currently held by DFL Rep. Tim Faust. He ran on a platform that the Republican Party had become unprincipled in recent years and that Republicans would need to return to their limited government roots if they were to win again.

Cummins, a resident of Brook Park, ran on the basis that Takala deviated too much from the party’s generally accepted talking points and that it caused conflict. Kurt Daudt, the congressional district’s only representative on the state Republican Party’s Executive Board, could be seen observing from the guest section.

Takala’s independence has resulted in several incursions in to Pine County by the 8th Congressional District GOP. Ted Lovdahl, the chair of the congressional party, sent a letter to the Pine County Republicans last year demanding that Takala “either resign or be removed” from the board. “We hope that you make the right decision,” the letter’s conclusion ominously portended.

Takala’s Executive Committee voted by 8-2 to reject the letter regardless of the consequences. Lovdahl issued no further response to the action.

Last week’s convention voted to re-elect Takala over Cummins after more than three hours of debate on a wide array of issues. Takala was assisted by endorsements from several prominent party figures, including a letter from Rep. Steve Drazkowski calling Takala “the type of leader able to usher in the change necessary to bring about the realization of the deeply held values of Minnesotans.”

Other officers elected to the group’s board were Dr. Michael Monte of Braham; Carolyn Stivers of Bruno; Dave Ostenson of Hinckley; Randy Christensen of Sandstone, and Oryol Dominguez of Braham. Directors elected to the board included Art Usher of Grasston and Abraham Mach of Sturgeon Lake. Dr. Monte gave Takala’s nominating speech.

“Republicans need to unite in supporting limited government candidates interested in promoting traditional, conservative, American values regardless of whatever wayward side trips that others in our political leadership may feel like taking. Rudy Takala is one person who offers that, and that is more than the DFL can say of Mr. Faust,” said Dr. Monte. “Mr. Faust has done what his party told him to do. I do not believe he has an independent streak in him. But I value political independence, and would like to see more of it in our state government.”

Takala cited Rep. Faust’s positions on gay marriage and the $6..4 billion budget deficit projected to take hold by 2011 as being Faust’s biggest shortcomings.

“Mr. Faust, along with the rest of the Democrats in the Minnesota House, has no solution to the deficit other than to increase taxes and hope for pork from the federal government. He cannot name one government program that he wants to cut. State spending has gone up by 140 percent since 1992 because Democrats go to the Legislature every year, increase taxes, and come home to cavort at gay pride rallies on the side. When we have such an unprecedented combination of spending, inflation, and profligate legislators running amok, no one should have to question why our economy is tanking.”

Baby DNA Bill will be heard on Monday, March 23, 2009 at 4:30 p.m.

Please come. Bring family, children, friends!

The presence of moms and dads and babies and individual and families has proven to be highly effective!

Let's show them we mean business on this bill!

If you cannot come, but wish to email written testimony, please send it to vickie.benson@house.mn

Mark it as "written testimony on HF 1341" or they'll likely throw it out!

Remember the bill eliminates parent consent rights, allows children and families to become involuntary subjects of research. It dismantles the genetic privacy law, eliminates rights for legal redress, and seeks to remove blood and baby DNA from the definition of "genetic information"

Please let me know if you can come. (Details below)

I'll have "PROTECT BABY DNA" stickers for everyone...and signs!

Hipocrisy

“Hypocrisy is the tribute which vice pays to virtue”
La Rochefoucauld

This is what we are seeing on parade once again in Washington D.C., These arrogant incompetent greedy (aig) pricks in Congress blathering on about AIG honoring contracts to pay retention bonuses to employees. AIG is paying off their contracts worth paltry millions of dollars when Congress has wasted untold Trillions of dollars. And they are aghast?  It is surreal. It is ridiculous on its face and a perfect example of the war that is to come from these Totalist Bastards.

“ The lust of controlling other people’s lives encourages people to get into the games of war. Controlling evolves to become more important than the people. Rules are then made to legitimize injustice and murder. Soon the need to gain advantage makes no other way possible to politicians; people without truth, honor, or justice. Living only for argument, conflict, and power.”

Chief justice accepts 'eligibility' petition

Roberts agrees to read Obama docs, consider WND's 330,000 signers
by Drew Zahn

"A California attorney lobbying the U.S. Supreme Court for a review of Barack Obama's qualifications to be president confronted the chief justice yesterday with legal briefs and a WND petition bearing names of over 325,000 people asking the court to rule on whether or not the sitting president fulfills the Constitution's "natural-born citizen" clause. Next On the Agenda...Price Controls

"With Democrats in control of the U.S. House, the Senate, and the White House, we have been witnessing an all-out assault on capitalism and the "American" form of government. Obama and others on the far left are using the current state of the economy to literally transform America. With each new bill that is said to "help" the economy, America is getting more government control over banks, health care, jobs, housing, and on and on."

Send a Tea Bag to Obama

On April 1, 2009, all Americans are asked to send a TEA BAG to Washington, DC.   You do not have to enclose a note or any other information unless you so desire.  Just a TEABAG.

Many cities are organizing Tea Party Rallies - however if you aren't the 'protester' type, simply make your one voice heard with a TEABAG.  Your one voice will become a roar when joined with millions of others that feel the same way.

Why April 1??
We want them to reach Washington by April 15th.
Send it to;    1600 Pennsylvania Ave.     Washington, DC  20500.

The Dark Prince Machavelli Diverts $ from Pilot Gun Program

Another Obama back room non-transparent slap in the face to all Americans

After the September 11 attacks, commercial airline pilots were allowed to carry guns if they completed a federal-safety program. No longer would unarmed pilots be defenseless as remorseless hijackers seized control of aircraft and rammed them into buildings.

Now President Obama is quietly ending the federal firearms program, risking public safety on airlines in the name of an anti-gun ideology.

NRA-ILA :: Minnesota: Another Gun Registration Bill Introduced

Minnesota: Another Gun Registration Bill Introduced

Friday, March 13, 2009

On Thursday March 5, State Senator Yvonne Prettner Solon (DFL-7) introduced Senate File 1165, in yet another attempt to end private firearm transfers in Minnesota.   SF 1165 is the companion bill to House File 953, previously introduced by State Representative Michael Paymar (DFL-64B).

SF 1165, like HF 953, was designed to not only regulate the sale of firearms at gun shows, but to regulate the sale of firearms between all law-abiding persons, all across Minnesota.  SF 1165 only affects law-abiding gun owners, and will in no way keep guns out of the hands of criminals.  Also contained in SF 1165, is a de facto registration system created by requiring the records of all transfers to be maintained by the state, which would be made available to all authorities, including for use in “civil” cases.  SF 1165 would also remove the permit holder exemption from a background check and even increase the waiting period from five to seven days.

SF 1165 is a direct attack on Minnesotans’ Second Amendment rights and needs to be stopped! Please contact the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and respectfully urge them to oppose this divisive bill. Their contact information can be found below.

Guess who is backing the RINO A.Specter?

Any surprise here? He must be booted from our ranks along with that nitwit slathering RINO next to him in the picture.
Specter's arm is semipermanently twisted...to the left.

Free Speech Still Under Assault

Following a premeditated White House campaign to demonize Rush Limbaugh, Newsweek aided the left’s “Hush Rush” campaign with a cover story pushing for Rush to be silenced. Now Rush can handle criticism from the White House and Newsweek just fine. But there was also a little noticed vote in the Senate late last month that could enable the left to accomplish by government regulation what they could never accomplish with actual debate.

until someone needs $5.
Must be willing to bite tongue repeatedly.

pack mule
and be able to go from zero to 60 mph in three seconds flat
in case, this time, the screams from
the backyard are not someone just crying wolf.

and stuck zippers.

None required unfortunately.
On-the-job training offered on a continually exhausting basis.

WAGES AND COMPENSATION:

Get this!  You pay them!
Offering frequent raises and bonuses.
A balloon payment is due when they turn 18 because
of the assumption that college will help them
become financially independent.
When you die, you give them whatever is left.
The oddest thing about this reverse-salary scheme is that
you actually enjoy it and wish you could only do more.

BENEFITS:

While no health or dental insurance, no pension,
no tuition reimbursement, no paid holidays and
no stock options are offered;
this job supplies limitless opportunities
for personal growth, unconditional love,
and free hugs and kisses for life if you play your cards right.

Forward this on to all the PARENTS you know,
in appreciation for everything they do on a daily basis,
letting them know they are appreciated
for the fabulous job they do...
or forward with love
to anyone thinking of applying for the job.

Quotes

"The time is now near at hand which must probably determine, whether Americans are to be, Freemen, or Slaves; whether they are to have any property they can call their own; whether their Houses, and Farms, are to be pillaged and destroyed, and they consigned to a State of Wretchedness from which no human efforts will probably deliver them. The fate of unborn Millions will now depend, under God, on the Courage and Conduct of this army-Our cruel and unrelenting Enemy leaves us no choice but a brave resistance, or the most abject submission; that is all we can expect-We have therefore to resolve to conquer or die." -- George Washington to his troops before the Battle of Long Island.

The fears of man are many. He fears the shadow of death and the closed doors of the future. He is afraid for his friends and for his sons and of the specter of tomorrow. All his life's journey he walks in the lonely corridors of his controlled fears, if he is a man. For only fools will strut, and only cowards dare cringe. -- James Warner Bellah, "Spanish Man's Grave" in Reveille, Curtis Publishing, 1947.

"We fight an enemy that never sleeps."

"As our enemies work bit by bit to deconstruct, we must work bit by bit to REconstruct. Be mindful where we should be. Set goals. We fight an enemy that never sleeps. We must learn to sleep less." -- Mike H. at What McAuliffe Said

"We will not go gently . . ."

This is no small thing, to restore a republic after it has fallen into corruption. I have studied history for years and I cannot recall it ever happening. It may be that our task is impossible. Yet, if we do not try then how will we know it can't be done? And if we do not try, it most certainly won't be done. The Founders' Republic, and the larger war for western civilization, will be lost.

But I tell you this: We will not go gently into that bloody collectivist good night. Indeed, we will make with our defiance such a sound as ALL history from that day forward will be forced to note, even if they despise us in the writing of it.

And when we are gone, the scattered, free survivors hiding in the ruins of our once-great republic will sing of our deeds in forbidden songs, tending the flickering flame of individual liberty until it bursts forth again, as it must, generations later. We will live forever, like the Spartans at Thermopylae, in sacred memory.

-- Mike Vanderboegh, The Lessons of Mumbai:Death Cults, the "Socialism of Imbeciles" and Refusing to Submit, 1 December 2008

"What is a "Three Percenter"?
During the American Revolution, the active forces in the field against the King's tyranny never amounted to more than 3% of the colonists. They were in turn actively supported by perhaps 10% of the population. In addition to these revolutionaries were perhaps another 20% who favored their cause but did little or nothing to support it. Another one-third of the population sided with the King (by the end of the war there were actually more Americans fighting FOR the King than there were in the field against him) and the final third took no side, blew with the wind and took what came.

Three Percenters today do not claim that we represent 3% of the American people, although we might. That theory has not yet been tested. We DO claim that we represent at least 3% of American gun owners, which is still a healthy number somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 million people. History, for good or ill, is made by determined minorities. We are one such minority. So too are the current enemies of the Founders' Republic. What remains, then, is the test of will and skill to determine who shall shape the future of our nation.

The Three Percent today are gun owners who will not disarm, will not compromise and will no longer back up at the passage of the next gun control act. Three Percenters say quite explicitly that we will not obey any further circumscription of our traditional liberties and will defend ourselves if attacked. We intend to maintain our God-given natural rights to liberty and property, and that means most especially the right to keep and bear arms. Thus, we are committed to the restoration of the Founders' Republic, and are willing to fight, die and, if forced by any would-be oppressor, to kill in the defense of ourselves and the Constitution that we all took an oath to uphold against enemies foreign and domestic.

We are the people that the collectivists who now control the government should leave alone if they wish to continue unfettered oxygen consumption. We are the Three Percent. Attempt to further oppress us at your peril. To put it bluntly, leave us the hell alone. Or, if you feel froggy, go ahead AND WATCH WHAT HAPPENS."

FRC Action Alert

Email Chris Matthews Today and tell him Pro-Life Americans are not  terrorists

On Tuesday, March 3, MSNBC host Chris Matthews called pro-life groups and individuals "terrorists" because they oppose the Kathleen Sebelius nomination for Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Is it Mr. Matthews' opinion that pro-lifers are terrorists because they oppose a nominee with views that are diametrically opposed to most of America? A nominee so radical it is difficult--impossible--to find an instance when she stood up as an elected official in support of life.

Does Mr. Matthews want pro-life groups to remain silent on a nominee who voted to weaken and eliminate measures like parental notification and waiting periods? A nominee who directed funds away from programs that support women and towards abortionists like Planned Parenthood.

Mr. Matthews should know better.

We have every right as citizens to object to a nominee who as governor hosted a private reception at the governor's mansion for the notorious late term abortionist George Tiller and his staff, and worked hard to block criminal charges against Tiller.

It is our duty to educate our fellow citizens about a nominee for an influential cabinet position whose views on abortion and health-care reform are radically outside the mainstream.

Please e-mail Chris Matthews today. Standing against abortion-embracing public officials is a moral virtue.

Email Chris Matthews Today and Tell Him That Pro-Life Americans Are Not Terrorists!

Audit the Fed Legislation has been introduced to truly audit the Federal Reserve. The first true Audit?, talk about no Congressional over site! Go to CCRFF to read more Also read about the Law of the Sea treaty and how the corrupt totalist UN will have control of the seas and we will lose more of our autonomy. This is a full bag of multi layered crap that must go down to ignominious defeat. NRA-ILA: Objective analysis from a former proponent of Canada's Long Gun Registry fiasco actually did some research and found out he was wrong. Could there be anyone in our legislature who can learn to read? Actually if they just went out Frontsight they would come back a changed human being. We should all encourage everyone we know to head out there and receive training. Fantastic place! Victims Of Socialism From IBD Editorials "Deadly Rationing: The gatekeeper for Great Britain's national health care system is denying cancer patients drugs that would extend their lives. Why? Because the medication is considered too expensive." NEWS RELEASE CCRKBA, BARR TELL HOLDER: ‘BACK OFF’ ON SEMI-AUTO BAN RHETORIC BELLEVUE, WA – Calling the ban on semiautomatic firearms “a bad, and totally unnecessary, lapsed federal law,” former Congressman Bob Barr is urging Attorney General Eric Holder to back away from a plan to renew that onerous idea, and the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is joining in the effort. “While we opposed Holder’s nomination as Attorney General and Barr supported him,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Barr in opposing the ridiculous notion that the ban be resurrected and made permanent. “The ban on so-called ‘assault weapons’ by Bill Clinton and the Democrats was a bad idea in 1994,” he recalled, “and it is an even worse idea today. We needn’t remind House Speaker Nancy Pelosi about the mid-term election consequences of the 1994 ban.” Barr was among dozens of pro-gun challengers swept into Congress by angry gun owners in November 1994. He served from 1995 until 2003. The former Congressman sent a letter to Holder on March 3 in which he explained that pushing for a renewal of the ban “would be inconsistent in my view with the clear mandate you enjoy to restore integrity and confidence in the government of which you are an important part.” He encouraged Holder to instead devote his energies to “restoring the civil liberties of American citizens” that have been eroded over the past several years. “Many law-abiding gun owners voted for Barack Obama,” Gottlieb added, “taking his word that, as president, he would not come after their guns. Renewing the senseless ban on sport-utility firearms and original capacity magazines would betray the trust of those voters, and Holder should understand that. “We’re delighted that Bob Barr, who supported Holder’s nomination, has added his considerable influence to this debate,” Gottlieb stated. “With Barr squarely in the corner of American gun owners – millions of whom own the kinds of firearms that would be affected by such a ban – hopefully we will prevail and the Obama administration will find more useful endeavors.”

Not a person alive reading this...

Hello All, There has not been true capitalism even in the U.S. for nearly 100 years! There is no one that is reading this that has ever experienced REAL capitalism or REAL liberty! Do you realize, have you ever thought about the fact that Capitalism has been blamed for all the ills in the world? Capitalism has been labeled a failure by the very slave mongers that corrupted thus destroyed it. And you have lazy dupes that could easily corroborate what I say, but they are too busy being insulted that I would point out their ignorance than to actually go find the truth. If they do go to look, they go to the same people that have indoctrinated them into the slave mongering fold in the first place. And that is what I mean by lazy. You will not get the truth from your Totalist handlers. And I also understand why you would initially "feel" insulted. It is what you've been trained to do. But know this; It is not in judgment that I say these things, it is a valid observation. If you say you want to get to The Gulf of Mexico and you are on the road to Canada and I tell you you are headed the wrong way. I am not judging you. I am making a valid observation. In the same vein I am observing you are going the wrong direction if you want liberty and prosperity. All the ills of the world can almost always be traced back to Govt. intervention. There is always some Totalist (remember Totalism is the power addicted, slave mongering, death eating mind set. Totalism is the umbrella under which all these philosophies are shaded.) whether businessman, farmer, inventor, singer, actor, teacher, PTA member, etc. that goes to some unscrupulous, greedy, immoral, oath violating, government official and gets the weight of govt. force to interfere in the free market. Sadly speaking of markets, I have to got to go to work so more on this later. Leftfoot Leeds

Budget Cutting Ideas, Armed Citizen Town Meeting

If you had a chance to address the Columbia Heights City Council and bring forth you ideas to them, what budget cut ideas would you bring to the table? To start you off here are 29 ideas from our own Donna Schmidt. Is there any ideas you would like to put on the table? 1. Renegotiate or take new bids for all contracts, such as phone, cell phone, internet, garbage, recycling, etc… 2. Do not approve any park and public improvements for the next year. (That should be a given, but I don’t want to assume anything.) We are ‘stuck’ with the projects that we currently have in progress but we will have to live with those. 3. Eliminate cell phone coverage for anyone other than police/fire. Look at possibly using 2-way radios wherever possible. Most jobs do not pay for cell phones for employees except when they are traveling. In those cases it is cheaper to pay for any usage over the limit on someone’s personal cell phone rather than purchasing a whole plan for one individual. 4. No donations of public funds to community groups no matter how “worthy” these groups may be. Employees, staff or elected officials, may still give personal gifts. Gifts-in-kind, such as waving fees for non-profits should be determined on a case-by-case basis and only allowed if the city is not running a deficit at the time of the request. Donations, by other community groups or individuals for these non-profits should be encouraged rather than a blanket fee waiving. 5. Look into reducing recycling pickup to 1 or 2 x’s per month rather than every week. The city has open recycling where people may drop off items every Saturday morning if they need to recycle more often. 6. No taking home of city owned vehicles by city employees. Exception would be fire/police who are on call. 7. Do a cost analysis of farming out of equipment repair versus in-house repairs. Get bids so we can do a legitimate cost analysis. One city did this on the condition that the repair shop would hire current city employees first. Those employees were paid at the shops price, not the current city’s price. 8. Encourage public and business support in areas where the city has to make cuts. Encourage donations of flowers for city gardens. Encourage volunteer groups to continue watering public gardens. (Some of this is already done but wanted to make sure that it was continued.) 9. Just as different groups sign up to pickup garbage on public highways encourage schools, businesses, churches or community groups to take ownership of public parks. Allow these groups to get a sign at the park showing that they are responsible to help with picking up garbage around playground equipment, watering the flowers and keeping the grounds cleaned. Groups would need to commit to at least one year. 10. Work at removing some of the public owned land that we have purchased in the past few years from the books. 11. Eliminating the University Ave. Liquor store. Selling off the property. The following six items are to help eliminate waste of paper: 12. Eliminate the copying of files for meetings for commission members. Make these available online and members could determine if they would want to print these out on their own. 13. Eliminate the copying of files for council members. Make these available online and members could determine if they would want to print these out on their own, at their own expense. 14. Eliminate the copying of emails for council members. They are all capable of getting and reading their own email. 15. Eliminating the mailing of notifications to commission or council members. They all should have email access. 16. Eliminate the copying of “green sheets” from the police department. All informational “green sheets” information should be made available online or emailed to council members and staff. Every council member has indicated they are all computer literate and if they have not brought in a computer to use at a council meeting they have referred to using one at different times. 17. The city has decided to print only black and white newsletters. The city should look at printing fewer and not mailing any of them. With the rise in postage in a few weeks it makes sense that we have fewer mailings. Make newsletters available in public places for people to pick-up or they can be viewed online. (Example of public places: churches, library, senior center, city offices, and public gym.) Many free magazines and newspapers work on this same principle. They seem to get the information out, why should the city be any different? 18. “Charge” or highly suggest an annual donation of $25 per person or $50 per family to help with library expenses. This is not uncommon. If you have ever been to the Como Zoo your admission is really a suggested donation, not a fee. The following is an example from another library as to different levels of donations, if you want to go more extensive in your donations: Friend - $25 - $50 - $75 Supporter - $100 Bibliophile - $250 Scholar - $500 Fellow - $1,000 Sponsor - $2,500 Conservator - $5,000 Benefactor - $7,500 Patron - $10,000 The following items are some suggestions for reducing salaries, benefits, and hours. They are not intended to be all enacted but are giving some different suggestions for helping to reduce the total budget. These would be some of the most controversial ones. 19. Reduce salaries of election judges. (At one time our election judges were some of the highest paid in the area.) 20. A 1% cut in salaries of anyone making less than $70,000 a year. A 1.5% cut in salary of anyone making more than that. (This would be in addition to the current pay raise that was eliminated at a previous council meeting.) 21. Limiting salary caps to 90% of the governor’s salary. Anything above that (bonuses, incentives) would have to be part of a package & taxed at a higher rate of income. (I don’t know if this is held to, as it should?) 22. If further positions are to be eliminated, the first ones that should be considered are those that were created in the past 5 years. 23. Reduce or eliminate benefits for part-time workers, especially city council members and the mayor. Half of our council is eligible for Medicare and the other half have full-time positions that should give them full-time benefits so why are we paying for health benefits for these people? 24. This would be a good time to renegotiate the pensions for elected officials. Half of our elected officials are old enough to draw on their pensions. Maybe we need to make an age limit as to when adding to a pension is put in place. 25. Look at shortening hours that the city offices are open. Which would mean a cut in hours for salaried workers. (Not the best idea but we may have to come to this.) 26. If it is not possible to shorten hours at this time, consider a 4-day work week with 4 – 10 hour days. That will cut down on heating and air conditioning of public spaces for 3 days a week. 27. Change the charter to make it acceptable for the city council & mayor to refuse a raise anytime there is a need for drastic budget cuts if they so desire on the year following an election. What constitutes ‘drastic’ budget cuts would still have to be determined. The loss of a pay raise from council members would not be enough to save a job of a staff person but it could be part of a solution. It should not be done in a ‘grandstanding’ fashion every year there is a pay raise but only done when there are severe budget cuts. Some of these suggestions may need to be made at the charter level but now is the time to start looking at these so we are ready for more cuts further down the road. Unlike the Federal government, we are a city; we cannot print more money when we run short. We cannot pretend any longer that this recession will not affect us. We need to be proactive and realistic in our approach. Nothing is going to be easy about this. Cutting jobs is not the first thing we want to do in these tough times. We need to try and cut as many other items as possible before we start handing out pink slips. I believe the city council and staff feels the same way. These are just some suggestions that I have come up with. I would have liked to be more exact in my suggestions but the city has neglected to put up the 2009 budget online. In looking for the 2009 budget I also noticed that they have neglected to put up the 2008 budget as well. Both are public records and both should have been available for viewing to the public for inspection. This needs to be corrected. Not putting these up online is irresponsible because it would be much more cost effective to offer these online rather than offering a hard copy to residents for inspection. You have had an offer from a former city employee, Malcolm Watson, who had to deal with massive budget cuts in the past, to help with this current budget crisis, I hope that offer was taken and not just given lip service to.
From NRA Armed Citizen "A nurse was home with her sick children when a man knocked on the door. She'd never seen him before, so she quieted the children and didn't answer. Undeterred, the man circled the house and tried to kick in the kitchen door, prompting the nurse to hide her children in a bedroom closet and tell the oldest to dial 9-1-1. The terrified child placed the call, saying, "We are going to die today." But police say the nurse wasn't going to allow that to happen. She retrieved a .38-caliber revolver, peered down the hallway and saw the burglar standing in the living room. "I came at him and started firing," she recalls. The burglar fled the scene. Speaking to a reporter, the nurse urged other women to consider gun ownership and to take firearm-training classes. (The News Courier, Athens, AL, 11/20/08)" ************************************************************************** "Police say a would-be burglar is probably feeling pretty inept at his illicit trade. First, he was caught entering a bathroom window by the home's 70-year-old female occupant, so he fled the scene. Minutes later he attempted to burglarize a second home, this time entering the home of Richard and Phyllis Osborne. Mrs. Osborne heard a ruckus, but a quick investigation showed nothing amiss—that is, not until Mr. Osborne noticed the bedspread was out of place. A closer look revealed the suspect's knuckles poking out from beneath the bedspread. Mr. Osborne aimed his shotgun at the suspect, ordered him to come out and held him for police. "I wasn't scared, I was mad," Mr. Osborne said. "I was mad because he scared my wife." (Gaston Gazette, Gastonia, NC, 11/24/08)" For more Armed Citizen experiences click the link

Studies indicate that firearms are used over 2 million times a year for personal protection, and that the presence of a firearm, without a shot being fired, prevents crime in many instances. Shooting usually can be justified only where crime constitutes an immediate, imminent threat to life, limb, or, in some cases, property. Anyone is free to quote or reproduce these accounts.
