Folks,
We are receiving notice from the city to get our campaign bus off the street. The city received a complaint of the bus parked on the street. Therefore, we need to locate an off-street storage location. Anyone knows of a spot contact us soon. In addition, we must maintain the tabs and insurance, the tabs (about $100.00) and 6 months of insurance (about $600.00) are due for renewal in March 09.
Our commitment to keeping the bus requires the campaign to raise the funds for the 2 items mentioned above prior to March 09.
Thanks to all for your support

The Citizen's League just came out with their comparison of Property Tax review. If you do some comparisons between the cities, the city with the most items similar to Columbia Heights is actually South St. Paul. Their population is only 2,000 more than what we have in Columbia Heights. Their average property values are about the same. The taxes that they pay are very similar. Even the increase that they had in their taxes are very similar to what we had in Columbia Heights.
Note the salaries of their 3 highest paid city workers in South St. Paul.:City Administrator - $110,589.00; City Engineer - $103,974.24; Police Chief - $100,426.80. This notice is published October 2, 2008
We are paying our city workers much higher and our cities are about the same size and both are suburbs of a larger city. Why the big discrepancy? We shouldn't be comparing ourselves to Brooklyn Center - they have over 10,000 more residents than we do. We shouldn't be comparing ourselves with Brooklyn Park - they have over 55,000 more residents than we do. Crystal might be close to what we should be comparing to-they only have about 4,000 more people than we do. Their home values run close to what ours do, maybe a little higher. But they average a little bit higher taxes than we do, also.
