Minnesotans have a CONSTITUTION, TOO. Should our judges be elected with opposition from other candidates...or a just elected as a formality? Rae

"The Preamble to our Minnesota State Constitution boldly proclaims, “We the people of the State of Minnesota, grateful to God for our civil and religious liberty, and desiring to perpetuate its blessing and secure the same to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution.” This year, as we celebrate the 150th Anniversary of our State Constitution, our generation is faced with a great challenge to preserve the institution responsible to protect our civil and religious liberty, our Minnesota Supreme Court.

Supreme Court Justices take an oath to uphold the Constitution, not to change it. But today, members of our Highest Court are lobbying to change our State Constitution, by taking contested judicial elections away from the people. They propose to replace judicial elections with an appointment system which will make our Courts accountable to committees rather than to the people. The result will be lifetime judicial appointments.

Contested judicial elections are the people’s only recourse against a growing judicial philosophy that strays from the original intent of our Constitutions. Constitutions are anchors, holding us in the safe harbors of truth and justice, not sails, taking our culture anywhere the winds of change may blow. If we fail to keep our Courts accountable to the people, the anchor will break, and the foundation upon which our prosperity is built will be destroyed.

It is my prayer, that God will allow me to carry this message to the people, and then to carry the Light of Truth to the Highest Hill, our Minnesota Supreme Court, in the 2008 election."
