The Minnesota state legislature is back in session starting TODAY. With a $4.8 billion dollar deficit, state legislators and Gov. Pawlenty face some tough decisions. The Governor has already said that he wants to solve the deficit by reforming government and not raising taxes in this challenging economy. DFLers majorities in the House and Senate say all options must be on the table (code word for tax increases). Hold on to your wallets! It's going to be a bumpy ride!

Zygi Wilf: The Latest Pig at the Trough

Most every special interest group has been lining up to get at Obama’s stimulus package trough. The latest example? Zygi Wilf, owner of the Vikings. This time the Vikings are using the “job creation” card saying that using state or federal money to build a new stadium would create more than 5,500 jobs.

The Star Tribune quoted Vikings’ vice president in charge of stadium development as saying that once the Twins and Gophers stadiums are done, “there are going to be thousands of construction workers looking for jobs.” But he doesn’t apply that same logic to the time when a new Vikings stadium is done. Once again those construction workers will be looking for another job. Then should the government decide to build another stadium just to keep jobs for construction workers?

NO! Creating jobs by funding special interest projects is not the government’s job. This is true especially when millionaires like Zygi Wilf can afford to pay for their own pet projects.

3. Buy a New Car…to Help Fund Mass Transit

The Big 3 aren’t the only ones hurting from a drop in new car sales. Since 38% of Metro Transit’s busses are paid for by sales taxes on car sales, they too are feeling the crunch as fewer people buy cars these days.

Although the lack of car sales isn’t primarily due to people taking public transit, one must beg the question: If so many of our friends in the public transit industry want more people to give up using cars to help the environment and lower congestion, why would you have over a third of your subsidies come from motor vehicle sales? If that theory worked (which we realize doesn’t), then your subsidies would go down merely because more people would be using public transit.

That theory doesn’t work because more government means more tax dollars, not less. Even now, at a time when ridership levels are at the highest since 1981, Metro Transit is running a deficit. Why? Because regardless of how many riders, transit will always require tax dollars to keep running.

4. Making Congestion Worse than it Already is

Officials in the liberal district of Speaker Nancy Pelosi (aka San Francisco) may make people traveling through the congested city even more angry as they sit in traffic. Currently their transportation authority is studying (via $1 million from federal tax dollars) how they can charge commuters to enter a congested area. Of course the hope is to get more people to take subsidized public transportation instead of drive their cars.

Although supporters may argue benefits of this tax, it’s really just another “new” idea for more taxes and more government money. As we’ve said time and time again, enough is never enough for liberals. Recession or no recession, congestion or no congestion, liberals always want to find ways to get more of your money.

Just think, after cash-strapped liberals in our state legislature finally balance the budget this session, you too might be sitting in traffic and look up to see the maddening sign: “Congestion Charge: $8”.

In the midst of all of this you will see a Muslim leader at the demonstration being interviewed exclaiming that once people really understand Islam they will have “no choice” but to accept it.

And remember that this latest round of violence began with Hamas breaking the cease-fire and launching hundreds of rockets into residential areas of Israel. That’s not very clear from many of the news reports of the past week. Israel has responded to defend itself, as it has every right to do.

On Friday and yesterday we emailed you Action Alerts about AIG offering a shariah-compliant insurance product. Last month the Treasury Department hosted a forum designed to educate government and private sector attendees on the Islamic finance market.

Today, we report to you the UK Financial Times story that “Saudi Arabia’s top cleric” has called for “Muslim countries to renounce capitalism and form an Islamic economic bloc that adopts interest-free finance.”

Apart from the fact that shariah “interest-free finance” is frequently disingenuous (in that the financial investments are often structured to provide a profit but the profit is not called “interest”), the pronouncement from Grand Mufti Abdelaziz Al al-Sheikh is but another reminder of the growing threat of “cultural jihad” to the West.

The number of officer fatalities due to gunfire is the lowest in 50 years, noted Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. A report out Monday said that this year, 41 officers have died from gunshot wounds, down 40 percent from the 68 who died by gunfire in 2007. Yet the number of concealed carry permits issued by the states has risen, dramatically in some areas, in the past 12 months. “Better training and equipment have contributed to this decline,” Gottlieb stated, “but it must be noted for the record that growing numbers of legally-armed citizens have not resulted in more police slayings. That has been one of the many lame arguments offered by gun control fanatics over the past few years when they fought against expanded concealed carry rights. “The death of one police officer is a tragedy,” he continued, “but common sense right-to-carry statutes have no relation to the criminal slayings of police officers, and anti-gun rights extremists know it.” The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund reports that more officers have died in traffic-related incidents than in shootings, same as last year, Gottlieb noted. “There are, today, more legally-armed citizens than ever before,” he commented, “and more privately-owned firearms than ten or even five years ago. More Americans own semiautomatic sport-utility rifles, growing numbers of women own guns for personal protection and more citizens are involved in shooting sports. “None of these law-abiding citizens pose any threat to public safety, and especially to the safety of our local police,” Gottlieb concluded. “We expect the new Congress, and state legislatures around the country, to keep this in perspective as the gun ban lobby mounts new attacks on firearm civil rights in 2009.”

The Catholic Church and Immigration Sunday
Immigration Sunday set for Jan 4th by the Catholic Bishops of Minnesota, is to address the “Anti-immigrant sentiment that continues to divide communities and focus on healing divisions left immigration raids.
One only needs to read the comments submitted at the Star Tribune’s website to see how this activity is further dividing communities and congregations. I fault the Church for the further animosity that they are creating by their involvement in this issue.
First - it is not anti immigrant sentiment - it is anti illegal immigration sentiment. Why does the Church does not make the distinction between legal and illegal immigration and call it what it really is Immigration (Illegal Alien) Sunday. Why, because the Church could not very well come out and ask you to support illegal activity.
Why the selective compassion? Where is the compassion for the plight of hardworking Americans or for those who entered legally - versus those who did not,- that now are unemployed?
And, as for “The Raids” (enforcement of our laws) and tearing families apart, where is the compassion for the many many families, who have been torn apart by the lose of a loved one by someone who should not be in the Country to begin with?
And, of course, there is no discussion of the financial burden and who will pay - nor the future sustainability of our country as a whole.
The Catholic Church has become a political figures rather than teaching the word of God, advocating the ignorance and breaking of our laws. Which Catholic rules may we choose to ignore?
If the Church believes that involvement in this issue is paramount, why does the Church not direct its efforts, put its primary focus upon and make demands of the Governments of Countries - like Mexico - to address the human rights issues of their own people in their countries - the countries they are fleeing - instead of addressing them here. The Church, in its compassionate approach could have remained active in the issue of illegal immigration and under the radar, but instead they have created - what some feel - is an atmosphere for Catholics to choose between - Country and Church.
Should the church be involved in patronizing and supporting breaking our immigration laws? - legal residents were not targeted in the raids - only those who are breaking the law. Should the Church be actively calling for comprehensive immigration reform?
I truly hope that as the collection baskets are being passed while educating and reflecting on biblical teachings on immigration - that the hard working legal residents and Americans are not forgotten and included are teachings such as: John 10:1, Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber.”
This subject is controversial and each must decide how they will proceed, but for me - my strong faith in God and the love for my Country will survive without the Catholic Church

We frequently refer you to what is happening in Great Britain because there we have a road map of what is coming to the United States, if we fail to act or choose to act as Great Britain has acted over the past 30 years. Seldom in life do we get the opportunity to see so clearly what does not work so that we can avoid replicating what does not work.

The bottom line is that Britain’s approach to dealing with the threat of radical Islam, no matter how well-intentioned, is proving to be an abject failure. Britain’s politically correct attempts to appease and accommodate Islamic militancy, in the hopes of mitigating radicalism and terrorism, are not only failing to mitigate those threats, they are accelerating them.

For instance, two different polls released over the past few years reveal that Britain’s Muslim population is increasingly clamoring for the imposition of Shariah law – which is now officially recognized in numerous cities across the country. These polls also reveal that second-generation Muslims, the children of the immigrants who came to Britain, are likely to be more radical than their parents.

The latest evidence of the failure of Britain’s approach is revealed in the commentary below.

As dangerous as Islamic terrorism is, to focus on that threat to the exclusion of the many ways that “cultural jihad” is being advanced in the West and here in America, is in itself dangerous. What will America be like in 30 years if we have 2,000 Islamic schools and madrassas in this country, a majority of which have links to extremists, teach extremist doctrines, and isolate their students from the world at large?

This is what the chilling study referred to below has found in Britain. This is cultural jihad at work. We are watching the transformation of Britain take place before our very eyes.

If we fail to act…or if we choose to act as Britain has…we are next.

It can be done.

If you have ever been victimized, you understand the feeling of vulnerability and helplessness that takes over your life afterwards.

It is a truly awful feeling. For many people, it is too much- it wrecks them. They spend the rest of their life in a constant state of mope. They become engulfed in self pity and fear. Some never leave their home or apartment ever again...

As horrible and powerful as these feelings can be, they can always be overcome. You just have to be incredibly strong, because I can assure you, taking your life back will be one of the biggest battles of your life.

But- it can be done.

The first step is believing that. You must KNOW deep down that you WILL defeat fear.

The second step is making the decision that you will NEVER allow yourself to be put into a position- ever again- that will make you feel such a degree of helplessness and vulnerability.

Because you are here, I'm going to assume that you're already at step two. You have decided to become armed.

You have decided to take back your life- Good job.

By now you know that simply dropping a gun into your pocket does very little to remove your fear. This is because picking up a weapon doesn't prepare you- and the whole idea of eliminating your fear requires that you become prepared-

Prepared to use force if necessary to ensure that you are never again exposed to such fear and vulnerability.

See, your ultimate goal, is to convince your subconscious that you are prepared.

As you read the short article below, ask yourself what the “establishment media” would be saying today if the “Chairman of the Society of Christian Lawyers” had publicly proclaimed that Ramadan is “evil,” and a “pathway to hellfire.”

Remember, the Muslim lawyer who branded Christmas “evil” is not just any Muslim, but the Chairman of the Society of Muslim lawyers. Note also that he is the Principal Lecturer at the London School of Shariah and “a follower of the Islamist militant leader Omar Bakri Mohammed.” These are the kinds of people American financial institutions are affiliating with when they offer shariah-compliant financial products.

The lawyer, who recently praised the Mumbai terror attacks, urged all Muslims to reject traditional Christmas celebrations, claiming that they are forbidden by Allah.

The 41-year-old shocked Christians and even those of his own faith by branding yuletide festivities as "the pathway to hellfire".

Choudary, who is chairman of the Society of Muslim Lawyers, ruled out all celebrations, including having a Christmas tree, decorating the house or eating turkey.

In the sermon posted on an Islamic website, he said: "In the world today many Muslims, especially those residing in western countries, are exposed to the evil celebration Christmas.

"Many take part in the festival celebrations by having Christmas turkey dinners.

"Decorating the house, purchasing Christmas trees or having Christmas turkey meals are completely prohibited by Allah.

"Many still practise this corrupt celebration as a remembrance of the birth of Jesus.

"How can a Muslim possibly approve or participate in such a practice that bases itself on the notion Allah has an offspring?

"The very concept of Christmas contradicts and conflicts with the foundation of Islam.

"Every Muslim has a responsibility to protect his family from the misguidance of Christmas, because its observance will lead to hellfire. Protect your Paradise from being taken away – protect yourself and your family from Christmas."

Choudary is Principal Lecturer at the London School of Shari'ah and a follower of the Islamist militant leader Omar Bakri Mohammed.

Earlier this year, he led a meeting at the heart of the area where the liquid bombers lived, which warned of a British September 11.

Toyota wows

Toyota announced their first forecast losses in 71 years, see link below. Time to blame the unions and their over priced contracts. Oh, wait a minute Toyota is non-union. So now who do we blame, perhaps the economic environment. I would suggest the problems are government intervention, steeling of wealth by taxation, massive increases of debt and manipulation of currency supplies.

Perhaps Washington minds should take over Toyota in the spring; we all know how smart folks from our nation’s capital are.
